Fiesta of Nossa Senhora da Boa Fe (Our Lady of Good Faith), Evora, Portugal
15th August
Nossa Senhora da Boa Fe (Our Lady of Good Faith) is a lively 3 day local fiesta which takes place in the village of Boa Fe, Evora, Portugal.
An annual event, lasting 3 days, it is usually held on the weekend closest to the 15th August. It takes place in and around the small village of the same name, dominated by the 16th Century Church of Nossa Senhora da Boa Fe.
Like most fiestas in Portugal at this time of year (many towns have them throughout August), the fiesta celebrates local agricultural activities and is a reflection of life in the area. There are processions, mass, cow baiting fights (Vacadas – innocent where the cow is unhurt), lunches and evening discos outside of the church. Simple, but very typical of the region, it's a great way to experience a traditional fiesta so often found in rural communities in Portugal and Spain.
