Set in the heart of the Parc Naturel des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin, Les Gites Champetres are located on the edge of the quiet village of Sainteny which is less than one hour from the port of Cherbourg and city of Caen.
Oak Cottage, one of three near identical g�tes, provides an outstanding base from which to explore this part of sleepy Normandy. The historic Channel port towns of Cherbourg and Caen beckon the eager tourist, each less than an hours� drive away, while even closer to your holiday home the Bayeux Tapestry, the Normandy landing beaches, the church in Ste-M�re-Eglise and countless small market towns and villages, full of traditional p�tisseries, boulangeries and caf�s, await your pleasure. Magnificent Mont St Michel is a little further away, and even Paris is less than a 3 hour train ride from nearby Carentan, while for the adventurous, perhaps a day trip to VAT-free Jersey from the nearby seaside resort towns of Barneville-Cartaret or Granville might appeal.

Accommodation:
Oak Cottage is one of three stone-built cottages in traditional Normandy style. It has two double and two twin-bed rooms, a family bathroom with bath, washbasin and wc, and a shower room with a multi-jet shower, washbasin and WC. The shower/toilet room is adjacent to the ground floor bedroom, making it particularly suitable for elderly guests/grandparents. The cottage has a spacious lounge with comfortable sofa and easy chairs, satellite tv to receive English freeview channels, French TV, channels, a DVD player and cd/hi-fi, a fully equipped kitchen with oven/hob, washing machine and dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer, and a dining room with seating for up to eight people. Internet access is provided, as of course is all bed linen and towels, though we do ask our guests to provide their own beach towels. No smoking in the accommodation please, and sorry, but no pets.

In each gite there is also a hairdryer, iron and ironing board and clothes airer. There is also a good selection of books and DVD's and a large selection of literature regarding places of interest and leisure facilities in the area, there are also a selection of board games and children�s toys .

To complement the exceedingly high standard of internal accommodation, the cottage has its own patio area complete with bbq, dining table and chairs for eight people, two sun beds, and a large sun awning, and which opens out into an extensive fully enclosed garden. For our younger guests this features swings, a slide, climbing rope ladder and trampoline, and the delights of Aladdin's Cave, and for all generations we have an outdoor table tennis table, boules, badminton etc. Oak Cottage also has a small garden to the side of the house which is for the guests exclusive use. The property is approached by a separate driveway, has ample enclosed parking, and is just as ideal for families with young children as it is for couples who want a little more space to enjoy this delightful area of Normandy.

Location description

Our village of Sainteny has great facilities all within a few minutes walk.
At the centre of the village is the Bar / Tabac, Pharmacy (with English speaking pharmacists) and the beautiful St Pierre Church.
At the top of the village we have the Boulangerie / Patisserie, Boucherie / Charcuterie, Village Shop (including La Poste facilities), a value-for-money Routier restaurant / Bar, Hairdressers, Garage and a Doctors surgery - all within walking distance from your accommodation.

Other activities

Sword, Gold, Juno, Omaha and Utah Beaches were the site of the largest invasion in history which, on 6th June 1944 became known across the world as D-Day. Stretching from the Carentan Estuary, a half hour drive away from your holiday cottage, to Ouistreham near Caen, a further half hour east the beaches continue to provide ample evidence of the fierce fighting which took place. German gun emplacements, particularly those at Pointe du Hoc, the Pegasus Bridge, the cliffs at Omaha Beach which were heroically scaled but with such devastating loss of life, and the war cemeteries, British, American, Canadian and German, all with their own tragic stories to tell. Our own village of Sainteny wasn�t spared, evidenced by photographs in the village church, and the house which is now our home was totally destroyed, and rebuilt in 1949.

Tourist attractions

Our nearest town is historic Carentan which is 10 km from Sainteny with several supermarkets, banks, shops, cinema, railway station (route to Paris) and a popular market held every Monday.

Directions

To reach Les G�tes Champ�tres from either the ports of Cherbourg or Caen, take N13/E46 to exit onto D971 in the direction of Carentan, and following the signs for Periers you will pass through five roundabouts until after 11 kms you enter the village of Sainteny. After 400 metres you will see the village boucherie on your right side and here you make a left turn, and after a further 700 metres take the left turn immediately before the crossroads, into rue des Ch�telets. The driveway to access Les G�tes Champ�tres is the second gateway on your left side.

A 30% deposit is required to secure the booking. Full payment to be made 8 weeks before arrival.
We can offer a special reduced rate if you are looking to stay for several weeks / months i.e. whilst house hunting.
