The Moors and Chrisitans Parades, Guardamar del Segura, Spain
Last week in July
These parades are famous for their extravagance and attract crowds of people from all over for this week in July. The week starts with an early morning invasion of the beach by Moors arriving by boat and then for the rest of the week there are festivities such as open air markets, dancing, music etc.
The end of the week visitors can rent a seat for a few euros and have a front row view of the magnificent parade as it winds it way through the town centre. On the first night it is the turn of the Christians to lead the parade and the following evening the Moors lead the parade. There are fabulous costumes, floats and bands and it takes several hours from beginning to end. The atmosphere is electric and is not to be missed.
