Carcassonne is magical at any time of year, but especially so during the last three weeks of December when the town is transformed into a winter wonderland. Tiny lights twinkle amongst the plane trees surrounding the main square – Place Carnot – transformed for the festival by an ice skating rink encircling the central fountain. Colourful stalls display all manner of arts and crafts for those last minute gifts and the aroma of freshly baked goods, spices and hot mulled wine fills the air.
Explore the streets and you'll find fairground rides, performers, concerts and dance. And, if you’re lucky enough to be there for Christmas Eve, you can share in the magic of fireworks lighting up the sky above this very special town.
