About our Gites:
Set in the heart of the Parc Naturel des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin, Les Gites Champetres are located on the edge of the quiet village of Sainteny which is less than one hour from the port of Cherbourg and city of Caen.
Walnut Cottage, one of three near identical gtes, provides an outstanding base from which to explore this part of sleepy Normandy. The historic Channel port towns of Cherbourg and Caen beckon the eager tourist, each less than an hours drive away, while even closer to your holiday home the Bayeux Tapestry, the Normandy landing beaches, the church in Ste-Mre-Eglise and countless small market towns and villages, full of traditional ptisseries, boulangeries and cafs, await your pleasure. Magnificent Mont St Michel is a little further away, and even Paris is less than a 3 hour train ride from nearby Carentan, while for the adventurous, perhaps a day trip to VAT-free Jersey from the nearby seaside resort towns of Barneville-Cartaret or Granville might appeal.
Accommodation:
Walnut Cottage is one of three stone-built cottages in traditional Normandy style. It has one double bedroom on the ground floor, a second double and two twin-bed rooms on the first floor, a family bathroom with bath, washbasin and wc, and two shower rooms, each with a multi-jet shower, washbasin and WC, one of which is adjacent to the ground floor bedroom, making it particularly suitable for elderly guests/grandparents. The cottage has a spacious lounge with comfortable sofa and easy chairs, satellite tv to receive English freeview channels, French TV, channels, a DVD player and cd/hi-fi, a fully equipped kitchen with oven/hob, washing machine and dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer, and a dining room with seating for up to eight people. Internet access is provided, as of course is all bed linen and towels, though we do ask our guests to provide their own beach towels. No smoking in the accommodation please, and sorry, but no pets.
In the cottage there is also a hairdryer, iron and ironing board and clothes airer, and a good selection of books and DVD's and a large selection of literature regarding places of interest and leisure facilities in the area. There are also a selection of board games and childrens toys .
To complement the exceedingly high standard of internal accommodation, the cottage has its own patio area complete with bbq, dining table and chairs for eight people, a separate coffee table, two sun beds, and a large sun awning, and which opens out into an extensive fully enclosed garden. For our younger guests this features swings, a slide, trampoline, and the delights of Aladdin's Cave, and for all generations we have an outdoor table tennis table, boules, badminton etc. The property is approached by a separate driveway, and has ample enclosed parking.
Les Gites Champetres are ideal for couples or families/groups with young children and is suitable for use throughout the year. Walnut Cottage is one of three near identical cottages adjacent to each other, ideal therefore for larger groups. and is set within the 2 acre grounds of the owners home.

Location description
Our village of Sainteny has great facilities all within a few minutes walk.
At the centre of the village is the Bar / Tabac, Pharmacy (with English speaking pharmacists) and the beautiful St Pierre Church.
At the top of the village we have the Boulangerie / Patisserie, Boucherie / Charcuterie, Village Shop (including La Poste facilities), Restaurant / Bar, Hairdressers, Garage and a new Doctors surgery - all within walking distance from your accommodation.
Tourist attractions
Our nearest town is historic Carentan which is 10 km from Sainteny with several supermarkets, banks, shops, cinema, railway station (route to Paris) and a popular market held every Monday.
Les Gites Champetres has easy access to numerous places of interest such as the Normandy Landing Beaches , Bayeux with its famous Tapestry, the seaside town of Granville and a little further afield the magnificent Le Mont St. Michel.
The city of Caen is only 1 hour away and has excellent shopping facilities as well as other historic places to visit.
Paris is only a two hour train ride away, making an interesting day out.
From Football to Fishing, Golf to Cycling, most, if not all sports activities are available within a short drive from the Gites.
Directions
Les Gtes Champtres are within easy easy driving distance from the ports of Cherbourg (45 mins), Caen / Ouistreham (1 hour) or Le Havre (2 hours)
If you prefer to fly, the nearest airports are Dinard (186km) and Rennes (200km).
