    Are you wanting to rent a villa or holiday house in Spain but would prefer a bit of 'real Spain ' rather than the overcrowded and touristy Costa del Sol? Our luxury four bedroom village house with private pool in the beautiful village of Riogordo in the Axarquia region of Andalucia near Lake Vinuela in southern Spain is available to rent all year round, with discounts for longer rentals.

    Living in a house in a working Spanish village is a wonderful way to enjoy an authentic Spanish holiday. The locals are very welcoming and you will find the peace and tranquility really enhances your holiday.

    The house is situated on one of the nicest streets in the village (the mayor is a neighbour). The street is one of the highest in the village with lovely views over both the village and also of the surrounding mountains. Parking is available on the street outside the house. The house itself is wheelchair friendly although there are some steps up to the pavement from the street. The pavement can be ascended from the street at either end. The pool and back terrace is very private. It is at the back of the property surrounded by walls.

    Location description

    Our house is situated in the beautiful village of Riogordo and near Colmenar in the Axarquia region of Andalucia in southern Spain. Both villages have an abundance of banks, shops, bars and restaurants. The Spanish love eating out and the area is well served with restuarants and bars - we provide guests with details of our favourites and how to find them. Although the house has its own private pool, the beaches are less than 30 minutes away by car.

    Riogordo was built by the Catholic kings besieging Velez Malaga, although there are indications of earlier settlement by the Carthaginians and Romans. It is a classic Spanish 'pueblo blanco' (white village) with houses built in the typical Moorish-influenced Andalucan village style, some with interior patios, wells and stables. Nestled amongst majestic mountain ranges, it retains a real sense of history while boasting a full range of shops, banks and restaurants. Life is tranquil and leisurely, the villagers friendly and welcoming.

    Colmenar is the capital of the Montes and like Riogordo remains a working rural Spanish village. It is the administrative centre for the area with numerous shops, banks and restaurants.

    Although these idyllic villages are well away from the busy Costa del Sol, they are still only 25 minutes from the beaches and attractions of the coast and with a superb road system, access to places like Granada, Cordoba, Malaga or Ronda is easy. Granada, or in winter the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada, is only an hour and a half away. There is a good bus service to Mlaga from Riogordo and Colmenar, but a hire car is essential to take full advantage of the area.

    Other activities

    Golf: Riogordo is very well situated for playing the many excellent courses in this area of Spain. The closest are within 30 minutes drive and even travelling down to Soto Grande only takes 90 min.

    Skiing: Winter lets can enjoy the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada only 90 min drive from the village. Get the best of both worlds and also not have the expense of renting in a ski resort.

    Deposit/Booking Notes

    These prices are for the whole property and include all running costs. Clean linen is provided weekly. Discounts are available for bookings over 2 weeks.

    We are happy to accept payment in Euros or British Pounds (at the current exchange rate) by cheque or bank transfer.

    We require a 25% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking. The balance with a 100/150 refundable damage deposit is due four weeks before departure.

    We welcome long term winter lets. Minimum stay is one month. Cost 395 per month plus utility bills (electricity & phone/broadband).
