Description
The house was built in 1860 by a rich winemaker's family. We bought it from their housekeeper and completely restored it, but keeping all the original features. It is very large and many guests have described being in the house and enjoying the garden and pool as "a destination in its own right". Most mornings start with a 2 minute walk to the boulangerie for fresh bread. After that the hard part is deciding whether to stay by the pool, go to the beach or explore the many medieval villages and towns. Or maybe hire a bicycle to explore the Canal du Midi and enjoy the dedicated pathways. We keep details in the house of an English-speaking bike hire shop in the next village that will even deliver the bikes to you. They have bikes for children of all ages.
In another neighbouring village you an hire an iconic 2CV for the day onwards! You might want to use one of those to explore the many vineyards and chateaux that offer wine tasting.
We have been to the house several times, and feel we are only scratching the surface of an area rich in culture and with a strong heritage, but with lots of tourist activities as well.
Unusually, there are two TVs, both with English channels, so that can stop family arguments!
You can reach everywhere within the village within a 10 minute walk, that includes restaurants, bars, and just admiring the place!

Location description
Ginestas is a medieval "circularde" village, ie built in a circle around the church, surrounded by vineyards on every side. Just a mile from the world-famous Canal du Midi and 20 minutes' from the Roman city of Narbonne or 35 minutes from Carcassonne. There is also a National Park 15 minutes to the north for walking and trekking, whilst a glorious beach is just 25 minutes to the south. The village has a traditional village café in the market square, wine bar, restaurant, boulangerie and small grocery. A large supermarket is less than 2 miles away. Cycles or boats.can be hired nearby. The house is on a very quiet street with lots of parking, every building is from 1860 or earlier. At the end of the short row of houses open countryside with a vineyard begins, and views to the Haute Languedoc and Pyrenees.
Other activities
There are dozens of chateaux offering free wine tasting within a few miles. The area is famous for artists. Almost every weekend one of the villages close by has an art of pottery fair with a general market that is fun just to hang around in and have a quiet drink or ice cream.

There seems to be a "Saints day" celebration or parade almost every weekend somewhere nearby!
