Description of holiday cottage in Loubes-Bernac, Aquitaine

Remember when we were kids we could roam the countryside with a picnic, getting home in time for tea? There were hardly any cars, no bogey men to frighten us.

Have you seen a night sky full of stars recently? Can you see the Evening Star as it appears at dusk? The Plough, the Milky Way so close you can almost touch them.

When was the last time you saw a hare, a gloworm, a praying mantis?

WELL, it's just like that here! Freedom, peace of mind and calm. This part of France is like reliving your childhood.

The properties are part of a hamlet with five houses, sitting on top of a ridge surrounded by vineyards, fields of sunflowers and plum orchards.

The two gites form the ends of a 17th century farmhouse. We live in the middle bit, with our two dogs and a cat. We're nearly always here, to help, but not intrude. We love to cook, eat and drink - happy to share our experiences of living in France.

Both gites have three double or twin-bedded rooms, two shower or bathrooms, fully-fitted kitchen, living room with dining area, outside terrace with barbeque. Large groups are easily accommodated (up to 13), as la Grange has a large kitchen, dining and living room and the terrace can take two patio tables and chairs.

The garden is just under two acres with loads of space for the kids to play cricket, football, badminton etc. The two pools are set away from the house in around 40m2 of terrace. Each pool is alarmed, but the area is not fenced.

Location description

Loubes-Bernac is central to the wine growing area and from the property you can visit dozens of vineyards, many on foot.

If you can tear yourselves away from the pools, there are chateaux, historic houses, adventure parks, mediaeval towns and villages, Bordeaux, St Emilion, canoeing on the Dordogne and smaller rivers, pney trekking, walking, cycling and, of course, visiting local markets etc
