Gaville is mentioned in the Divine Comedy because a florentine nobleman, Francesco de Cavalcanti, was killed by the inhabitants of the ancient castle.
For revenge, the florentines destroyed the castle. What has remained today is the medieval village and up until a few years ago were the ruins of an ancient structure annexed to the castle.
Today this old complex has been restored and brought back to life, respecting its original characteristics and using traditional materials yet offering all of the modern comforts that one may desire.
Gavillaccio is located in an extremely panoramic area bordering Chianti and is at the centre of an artistic triangle which includes the cities of Florence, Siena and Arezzo.

Directions
Take A1 "autostrada del sole" and exit at Incisa Valdarno (the first exit after Firenze sud going south). Turn on your left on the state road and follow directions for Figline. Before arriving in Figline turn on your right following signs for Greve, Ponte agli Stolli, then go on until you pass a bridge ( note: do not turn right before the bridge). Before entering the historical centre, turn on the right and go along the ancient walls. At the end of the walls turn right passing the hospital, make another right at the roundabout and follow directions for Gavillaccio. After aprx 6 km turn on the right going uphill and you will find Gavillaccio on the right. Welcome!!
