Casa do Riacho (RNAL Reg No. 23989/AL) is a traditional Algarvean style villa, built in 2009 by the current owners, who know the area well and feel they have created the perfect place to quickly relax by themselves with friends and family all year round. In the foot hills of Santa Catarina, the villa is within easy reach of the A270 Săo Bras/Tavira road and is situated a little way up a country track/lane in a quiet, rural area, convenient and well positioned.
The villa is furnished comfortably and to a very high standard. It includes free WiFi, two way air conditioning, a log fire, Smart TV, CD and DVD players and an iPod dock. The villa is lovely, peaceful and the private rural location is stunning, surrounded by hills, unspoilt countryside and amazing views, with fabulous wildlife, yet is just a short 500 metre walk from the local shops which cater for all the usual provisions.
It is within close reach of Faro Airport (20 mins), with easy access by car to numerous beautiful sandy beaches such as Fuseta (15/20mins) and Barril (20 mins) and the local towns of Tavira (15 mins), Olhao & S. Bras (10/15 mins), Loule (20 mins) and is only 6km from the A22 motorway jct 15, linking the whole of the Algarve coast with Spain and Lisbon (the Spanish border is less than a 20 min drive). Additionally, the villa is within 30 mins drive from many of the region's best golf courses, including those of Vilamoura, Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago to the West and Benamor, Monte Rei, Quinta da Cima, Quinta da Ria, Castro Marim, Quinta do Vale to the East, plus it is in easy reach of Algarve tourist attractions including Zoomarine, the water parks and many historical places of interest. The Colina Verde 9 hole golf course and leisure club is just 15 mins drive.
Being so centrally located, and with the A22 a few kilometres away, there are many other places to discover within very easy reach, inlcuding Castro Marim, the Beniche and Odeleite Dams near the Guardiana River on the Spanish border (30 mins) to Vilamoura, Albufeira, Guia, Lagos, Silves, Monchique, Portimao, Sagres and Cabo S. Vicente in the West - all within an hour's drive or less.
The villa boasts 3 good sized bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (2 en suite and one adjacent). It comfortably sleeps up to 6 people in two double and 2 twin beds (babies' cots available on request). The 8 x 4 metre beautifully maintained swimming pool is located at the front of the villa, from which there are spectacular hillside views. The pool is great for swimming and is approx 1 metre deep in the shallow end and 2 metres in the deep end. There are several lovely terraces on which to sunbathe, or sit in the shade and dine alfresco. The pretty mature well tended gardens, including carob and olive trees, offer additional natural shady areas to relax.
The immediate surrounding area has wonderful country trails for keen walkers and the area in general also attracts cyclists and bird watchers. The small local town of Santa Catarina is conveniently just a short walk/drive away. It offers several mini mercados (small supermarkets), a bank, pharmacy, health centre, fresh fish and fruit shops, newsagent selling English newspapers, cafe/bar and lovely bakery, offering many choices of fresh bread and locally baked cakes plus great ridiculously cheap breakfasts and snacks. The prices are generally very reasonable in this region, as it's outside of the real tourist area. There is a very good and reasonably priced traditional Portuguese restaurant, O Constantino, approx 5 mins walk (400 meters) from the villa and A Taberna in the village,plus many others within a very short drive in all directions. The nearest main (and reasonably priced) large supermarket is less than a 10 min drive. There are several others within easy reach too.
For dining at the villa, there is a fabulous, efficient and easy to use brick built BBQ on the main terrace with a huge selection of utensils available, plus a fully equipped kitchen. The dining room table can seat up to 8 comfortably .The villa is extremely well managed/serviced by our friendly, efficient and reputable local, long established, multi-lingual property management company, contact, Sara Ellery. They are on hand for help and advice. The owners are always happy to discuss clients' requirements and can be flexible concerning arrival days and length of stay and longer lets.

Location description
Casa do Riacho is situated in a beautiful tranquil hillside setting in the untouristy Eastern Algarve, less than 1km from the pretty village of Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, situated between Sao Bras de Alportel and is not overlooked on any side. The property offers great privacy and is a short and easy drive from some of the cleanest, quietest, beautiful and most unspoilt beaches in Portugal eg. Fuseta, Baril and Tavira Island to name a few.The nearest restaurant is a very short walk (400 metres approx) and offers a varied and good menu, including local dishes and specialities.
The villa is central for the many golf clubs and other amenities in the region. It is also a paradise for walkers, with many marked walking routes within easy access of the villa. Cyclists (cycling is big in Portugal) can hire bikes from the local towns. The local coastal area is especially popular for birding (Rio Formosa is 20 mins drive). Casa do Riacho is also within easy reach of Faro airport (25 mins drive) and a short drive (15 mins) from the town of Tavira, one of the most beautiful undiscovered gems in the Algarve, which is a must to visit both during the day and at night.
The A22 motorway exit is about 6 mins drive from the villa. It is usually a very quiet road and links the whole of the Algarve to Spain and also Lisbon (which is approx. 3 hrs drive) and it's an easy drive to Val do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, Vilamoura, Albufeira, Silves, Sagres, Lagos etc. Surfing is a day trip to the West Coast. Sea excursions are offered on the Rio Formosa just 20 mins drive away at Fuseta and also Olhao. Sea Fishing and other boat trips are available at Villamoura (30 mins drive approx.) and other locations.
The Eastern Algarve is a lot less touristy and unspoilt than the Western side. It feels very relaxed and it is considerably cheaper to eat out than the Central and Western Algarve. The locals are generally very friendly and helpful. In nearby Tavira there is a Lidl, Aldi, Continente, Pingo Doce, plus it has a big new shopping centre called Gran Plaza. About 10 mins drive is a very good and reasonable supermarket called Intermarche in Sao Bras de Alportel. 20 mins from new Loule MAR Shopping Algarve Mall

Directions
From Faro airport (via motorway A22) :
On leaving the airport stay in the right-hand lane to enter a dual carriageway. Follow this road passing exits for Monte Negro, Faro and Portimao. Pass Faro city which will be on your right.
Take the next exit, Sign posted S Bras Alportel as you come off the exit ramp you will come to a roundabout, take the third exit. N2, Sign posted A22 Espanha
Follow the N2 to the motorway (signed variously A22 and IP1) going through Chelote and 2 sets of traffic lights.
As the N2 approaches the motorway it takes a gradual left-hand bend. Immediately after this bend take the right-hand fork signed ESPANHA. Beware ! Signage at this point is at road level, difficult to read and unlit at night.
Leave the A22 at junction 15 sign posted Olhao.
At the first roundabout go left (signed Santa Catarina).
Keep going along this road until you come to a roundabout. You are now in St. Catarina.
Take a left turn sign posted Sao Bras, keep going along this road and pull in at the Oz petrol station on the right where our property manager will meet you and escort you to the villa
Return to Faro airport
Return to the A22
Leave the A22 at junction 14 and join the N2, heading for Faro.
After about 7km the airport is signposted to the right immediately before a road bridge crossing the N2 ahead of you.
Take this road and follow it directly to the airport.

Wonderful week in this lovely Villa
The villa is just delightful so well appointed with 3 bedrooms each with own shower/bathroom and well laid out providing privacy along with lots of open plan living space - it has everything you could possibly need in the way of amenities and is clean and comfortable :)
Outside is a gorgeous pool crystal clear with stunning views over the valley - the gardens are lovely, well kept with interesting flora and fauna - ideally situated between Faro, Loule and closest of all the lovely town of Tavira.
Excellent beaches a short drive away - highly recommend.

From the moment we enquired about hiring this beautiful home, we were well and truly taken care of. The owners, Lisa and Charles were extremely helpful, as well as the local staff who oversee the home. We were met by Lorraine, who looks after the property with her husband, Luis, and they could not have been more helpful. We were welcomed by the gorgeous smell of the burning open log fire. We preordered a welcome hamper, and as it was New Year's Day, Lorraine even provided extras such as wine and groceries so we could cook that evening, which we paid her for. The villa is extremely spacious. There is a large utility which has a washer and a fridge in. This leads to the excellently equipped kitchen....honestly, there is nothing you won't find in there! We actually ate in every evening as it was so well equipped. After dinner, load the dishwasher and relax. The kitchen leads through to the dining area which has a bookcase and board games aswell as a beautiful sideboard and a beautiful rocking chair in an open space leading out to the terrace. Off the dining area is a double bedroom with a bathroom opposite. Stairs lead upto the wonderful master bedroom. This is an extremely large room and has an ultra modern glass walk in shower. A highlight of the room is a large terrace which overlooks the beautiful unspoilt countryside and the ocean in the distance. Back downstairs, a few steps lead down to the lounge which is so homely and cosy. There are two sofas and a chair, with a large table. The main feature of the room is the open log fire. The fire and surround is truly stunning. We designated one of our party to collect the logs from the log store at the back of the villa and clean the fire out each morning. There is also a CD player and a TV and DVD machine....not only that, but a large selection of CDs and DVDs to accompany these. We took some DVDs with us and it was so cosy after dinner to relax in the lounge with the log fire burning away. There is an amazing light feature which hangs from the high ceiling. Off the lounge is a spacious twin room with an ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. This room has a window overlooking the pool and has a beautiful chair which was lovely to sit and read in. All of the bathrooms have heated towel rails too! Outside is just as stunning, a beautiful med style garden with cacti, various terraces to sit on and a beautiful pool...even in January we dipped our feet in! The views from the villa are breathtaking too.
