    Description

    The villa is set in 3.8 acres of olive and carob trees, with no other letting villas nearby, within easy reach of many sandy beaches and 30 mins. from Faro Airport. Set in rolling hills with panoramic views from the pool and terrace, which is, however completely private, quiet and peaceful.

    Villa Tranquila is five minutes' drive from Santa Catarina or 30 mins walk (unlit). There's a small daily market, minimarkets, a chemist, a papershop, a cashmachine, bars & cafes and a petrol station.

    Set between Tavira and Sao Bras the house is a good base for exploring, bird watching, walking and cycling. There's a wide choice of sandy beaches and the nearest waterpark is 30 mins. away. Many beaches are on "ilhas", sand banks reached by ferries. One by a pontoon bridge and a little train! Others are accessible on foot and some have boardwalks. There are also several golf courses. The towns of Tavira, Faro, Estoi and Moncarapacho are interesting to explore, while there are many lovely coastal villages as well. The Rio Formoso National Park is a must for nature lovers.

    All the accommodation is on the ground floor, other than the roof terrace! There is underfloor heating/ air conditioning according to the season. All the floors other than the bathrooms have quarry tiles which are hand made in the village. There is plenty of parking/ turning space near the house under the shade of a large tree. The house is not suitable for babies or toddlers.

    The double height lounge is spacious with plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs. There is a smart tv with English channels, a radio available and a dvd too. There is free unlimited wifi, playing cards and books. There's plenty of info. in here about the surrounding area and things to do. The lounge opens from french doors onto the pool.

    The kitchen has granite work tops and is well-equipped and large enough for a dining table. There is an electric cooker, gas hob, fridge freezer, disherwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster etc.

    There's an iron & ironing board in the utility, cleaning materials, beach umbrellas and chairs etc. The washing machine in the garage.

    The villa sleeps 6 in 3 spacious bedrooms, one double and 2 twins. The master bedroom has a large double bed and an ensuite with a shower. French doors open to the terrace and pool. Bedroom two has twin beds and french doors opening to the courtyard and faces east so it gets the morning sun. It is separated from the third bedroom by the family bathroom, which has a large bath with shower over, basin, toilet and bidet. The third bedroom, with twin beds, opens through french doors on to the back garden.

    Bedlinen and towels are included and changed weekly. Please bring your own pool towels. All rooms are on the ground floor. The villa is cleaned weekly. A welcome pack is provided.

    Outside there's an approximately 8 x 4 metre mosaic pool which can be heated if wanted, with a shower. It has underwater led lighting for night swimming. It is surrounded by a terrace and flowerbeds with a full size boules court to one side. Part of the terrace is shaded with a table & chairs. There are sunloungers with cushions by the pool with extensive long distance views. On the far side of the pool is a raised circular area with a hanging seat under the shade of a large carob tree. There is a further terrace and garden coveniently leading from the kitchen with a barbecue and a table & chairs for alfresco eating.

    There's a large parking area near the house, shaded by a tree and a large car port to the rear of the garage.

    The large roof terrace is reached by stairs from the back garden and is good for birding and watching the sunset or sunrise. It has 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside. We have hoopoes, golden oriels, azure- winged magpies, beeeaters, woodchat shrike, the Dartford warbler, various owls, woodpeckers, eagles, swallows, swifts, partridges and so on.

    The discreet owners, who live nextdoor, are on hand for help or advice. They have a few cats, who are present but not intrusive and a docile, friendly dog.

    Due to the secluded location of the villa, 2km. up a farm track, car hire is essential. You can not therefore arrive by train but the nearest station is shown for any rail buffs. Full directions and a map will be sent.

    Location description

    The house is 20-30 minutes drive from the lovely long sandy beaches this side of the Algarve. Many are on "ilhas" - sandbars. They are accessible by a short ferry ride for minimal cost. The beach at Barril is where you have first to cross a pontoon bridge then you can either walk or take the mini train- a favourite with children. Other beaches are directly accessible from car parks, some have boardwalks.

    Santa Catarina is a 5 minute drive or a 30 minute walk along a farm track (unlit, so in daylight). The morning daily market is small but has meat, fresh fish and locally grown fruit & veg. There are minimarkets, a petrol station, a newsagents, a pharmacy and a sprinkling of cafes & bars. There's a cash machine too (many local shops & restaurants only take Portuguese cards).

    Sao Bras is a 20 minute drive away in the hills. It has good supermarkets, restaurants, bars & cafes. It was a centre for cork production and one of the old cork baron's houses has been turned into a local museum, giving you a chance to see the inside of one of these beautiful old houses. Down the side of the church you can find part of the old Roman road that ran to Faro.

    Twenty minutes away is Tavira, once the capital of the Algarve and has some of the best architecture. There's lots going on, there are ferias, free music in the evenings, the beach, the castle and the camara obscura. There's a good, large daily food market, supermarkets and many good restaurants & cafes where you can sit and enjoy views of the river.

    In Faro, half an hour away, you can park right in the centre of the old town and wander around enjoying the architecture, bars & restaurants or pop into the museums & art galleries.

    Olhao is the port where the fishing boats come in. It has a fantastic fish, seafood, fruit & veg market daily. It has a lovely mix of moorish architecture, some restored but also a lot of faded grandure. One of the best places to go for fish and seafood restaurants.

    Amancil is 30 minutes away, it's only attraction is a karting track designed by Ayrton Senna, with 200 & 390 cc karts for adults, another track for 7-12 year olds and one for 3-6 year olds. It also has food and amusments for those not interested in karting.

    Estoi's Pink Place, now open as a hotel, has beautiful painted ceilings and tiled walls. It was built in the eighteenth century as a pleasure palace. Most of the state rooms and part of the gardens can be seen if you just stop for tea or a drink. Combine this with a worthwhile visit to the nearby Roman Ruins at Milrue.

    Moncarapho is a large village 20 drive from the villa. It has plenty of shops, a daily food market and mini markets. There are a couple of nice squares, the usual good restaurants & cafes. It has a large, authentic pottery and the nearest golf course (9 holes).

    On the coast you are spoilt for choice by 7 further 18 hole courses.

    For something quieter try the old fishing villages of Santa Lucia, Cabanas, Cacaela Velha.

    Perfection

    We spent an idyllic and relaxing week at this property in September. Everything was perfect, the house, garden, bed, kitchen, terraces and furniture, pool, roof terrace, boules court, dog, cats, neighbour owners Andy and Cynthia, location, walks to the village for breakfast. Excellent quality property and the location quiet and sunsets beautiful. We hope to stay again, the best house we have stayed in the Algarve - and we are fussy!

    A really great place!

    Just back from a fantastic holiday at Villa Tranquila, a really nice house in a very peaceful, scenic location - ideal if you want to get away from it all, but close enough by car to all the shops, supermarkets, restaurants and beaches that this fantastic part of the Algarve has to offer.
    Andy & Cynthia who although live next door are very discreet and keep them selves to themselves but are available and on hand for any enquiries or help.
    The house had everything that we needed for the perfect holiday.

    We can't rate Villa Tranquila too highly. We have just returned from our second visit to this wonderful property.

    If what you are looking for in a holiday is a peaceful location, a beautiful & well- maintained house, a lovely pool with stunning views a short drive to one of the most picturesque towns in Portugal (Tavira) with kind & discreet owners, then Villa Tranquila is the place for you.

    Deposit/Booking Notes

    There is a minimum stay of 1 week but beyond this the stay doesn't have to be in whole weeks (10 days, for example, is fine). Arrival & departure dates are flexible to allow you to take advantage of cheaper mid-week flights if you wish. You may arrive any time after 1pm & must leave by 10am on your last day. The villa is cleaned & the linen & towels changed weekly.

    Once dates have been agreed booking will be confirmed on receipt of a 50% deposit. The balance will become payable 8 weeks before the start of the holiday. Confirmation of receipt of the deposit will be by email & the dates will be marked as booked on the calendar. When the balance has cleared directions, a map & key pick-up details will be sent.

    Usually the owner will be on hand to meet you.

    Prices are for the whole villa per week in UK pounds, payment can be made in Euros if preferred.

    Pool heating is optional @ 90.00 per week high season, 110.00 per week mid season & 130.00 per week low season.

    All available dates less than 8 weeks away are discounted by 10% on the rental only, returning guests are welcomed with a 5% discount on the rental for all dates more than 8 weeks away.
