Description
The Walnut Tree villa is designed to provide the perfect accommodation for large families or groups of friends holidaying together. We seem to specialise in big celebrations! There is a large pool (10m x 5m and non-diving) and is set in well tended grounds of over an acre, a barbecue area, boule court and table tennis.
The accommodation is arranged on two floors in separate apartments although the villa is normally let as a single unit. On the ground floor there are three bedrooms (one with french windows onto the pool terrace), a bathroom, a shower room, a separate wc off the utility room. The large open-plan living/dining/kitchen - comfortably furnished and well equipped -leads onto the pool terrace via two french windows.
On the first floor there are two further bedrooms (both with french windows leading onto balconies) and a second bathroom. There is a further open plan living/dining/kitchen again with two french windows leading onto the balcony which runs along the back of the house overlooking the pool terrace.
There are comfortable sofas, chairs and extra large beds on both floors. All bedrooms have remote control air conditioning. The plentiful supply of linen and towels (pool/beach towels provided in a cupboard in the utility room) are 100% cotton. There is full central heating and wood burners on each floor.
For the energetic, there is a boule court, table tennis as well as two bicycles for our guests' use.
There is a large barbecue area with lighting and seating for ten.
The villa is serviced (extra service by arrangement) and the pool and garden are fully maintained. Outside there is plenty of garden and pool furniture. Our guests are welcomed by our agent, Spyros Dorizas.
The Walnut Tree's central position on the island ensures easy access to Kefalonia's airport, the capital of Argostoli and other major attractions which include the cave/lake of Melissani, famous Myrtos Beach, the village and harbour of Assos and the beautiful little port of Fiskardo.
Activities available locally are sailing, diving, snorkelling, windsurfing, cycling, walking and a good deal of lazing about the pool enjoying the beautiful views! There are plenty of delightful restaurants, bars and cafes within a short drive in the villages of Karavomilos, Agia Efimia and Poulata. Four kilometers away, the bustling port of Sami has ATMs, post office, medical centre, tourist office, restaurants, tavernas, bars, supermarkets and shops.
However, the charms of The Walnut Tree are the wonderful views of surrounding countryside, the mountains and the sea and the PEACE ...............

Location description
Our guests have particularly enjoyed the villa's easy access to the attractions of the island: the charming harbours at Assos, Fiscardo, Poros and Aghia Efimia, the bustling port of Sami and busy capital Argostoli, the caves of Drogarati and beautiful cave/lake at Melissani are just some of the places that should not be missed. Of course, the beaches of Kefalonia are celebrated as some of the most beautiful in the world - particularly Myrtos and Anti Samos. We have a magnificent National Park surrounding Mount Aenos with an astounding array of wild flowers in spring and autumn. The walks on Kefalonia are a particular joy and exploring the island by bike (we have two for our guests' use) is to be recommended to the more energetic.
Other activities
Sailing - there are boats for hire at the harbours of Sami, Aghia Efimia and Fiscardo. Day excursion boats are also for hire. There is an excellent diving centre at Agia Efimia (9 kms), a riding stables at Grizata (5 kms) and plenty of well marked hikers trails for wonderful walks along old tracks. Donkey Tracking is also available - with a guide to show you some hidden delights - the old water mills in the gorge, old villages in the hills and so much more. There are ferry excursions to other Ionian islands - Sami to Ithaca and Pessada to Zante as well as ferries to the mainland and Italy.
Local events
There are many feast days in Kefalonia which are celebrated with dance and song with participants in National Costume. The most famous of these are centred round the Monastery and Feast Days of St Gerasimos in August and October. Kefalonians from all over the world return to the island for these ceremonies. There are marvellous markets near the monastery as part of the celebrations selling traditional food specfic to the feast as well as everything else you can think of - literally.
Tourist attractions
Kefalonian wine is justly renowned with Robola being the most famous name. There are several wineries to visit with wine tasting and the opportunity to buy straight from the producer. The local produce of Kefalonia is fresh and delicious - try local feta, yoghurt, honey, walnut and almond cakes as well as speciality preserves and sweets. Most of our guests complain that they put on weight at The Walnut Tree. Like it's our fault!!!
Directions
Easyjet, Thomson, Monarch and Thomas Cook all have direct flights from UK to the island from late March until November Ryanair fly to Milan from Kefalonia with a connection to UK. There are flights year round to Athens via Olympus/Aegean Flights with a regular bus/ferry connection (Strinzi Ferries) from mainland Greece to the island. There are direct ferries to Italy in the summer months and via Patras in winter time.
