The property:
Villa Sofia is a 3 bedroom stone villa, located in the Cretan village of Prines. It is a traditional Turkish village house dating back from to the early 19th century and the Ottoman occupation of Crete. It underwent a meticulous restoration which ended in 2010. The property was re-designed to keep many of the original features, while combining them with a modern aesthetic and high standard furnishing and modern equipment.
It benefits from ample space, high sealing, a stone structure which keeps the property cool during the summer, a private pool, patio space, adobe oven, barbeque space and a large veranda overlooking the village of Prines and the surrounding mountains.The property also benefits from floor-panel heating (for bookings during the colder months).
Spatial description:
The main entrance of the Villa faces north. Upon entering, one views an open area consisting of a living-room, a fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen and dining area that is separated by a stone arc. On this ground floor there is also a large bedroom and a full bath. The rear portion of the ground floor leads to a courtyard which contains a swimming pool, an adobe oven, and a barbecue space.
A staircase leads you to the second floor area which is furnished as an office space. There are two bedrooms on the second floor and a full bath. On this landing, there is a large veranda overlooking the mountains, the oak forest, and the sea.
Every area of the house has your privacy and quiet insured.
The location:
Villa Sofia is situated in the village of Prines, a traditional village near the city of Rethymno. Prines is a village full of old-rustic houses and villas that date back hundreds of years.
The center of the city of Rethymno is a 15 minute car drive away
The region of Rethymno as a whole is rich with history. The town still maintains its old aristocratic appearance, with its buildings dating from the 16th century, arched doorways, stone staircases, Byzantine and Hellenic-Roman remains, the small Venetian harbor and narrow streets. The city's Venetian-era citadel, the Fortezza, is one of the best-preserved castles in Crete. Lots of other monuments are worth seeing in the area as well.
A 10 minute car drive separates Villa Sofia from the Closest Beach. Cretes beaches are famous worldwide.
Other famous and worthwhile attractions that are close by are: The Samaria gorge, the Preveli monastery, Plakias, the city of Chania, the ancient ruins of Knossos and many more.

Catering and babysitting services are available upon request.
Sailing trips are also available upon request and only during the summer months.
For the summer season (March-October): The thick stone walls, high quality building materials and the careful planning of the house make it heat-resistant during the very hot summer season.
The villa has a paved courtyard area with a private swimming pool facing south and a large veranda area facing north, which means that you can catch sun and shade at all times of the day.
For the winter season (November-February)
The underground heating pad system (on the first floor), the heating units (on the second floor) make Villa Sofia a perfect villa for winter bookings.

10% discount if a booking is made 30 days or less prior to arrival.
Long-term stay discounts:
Bookings with a duration of 30 nights or more apply for a 20% discount in the months of April, May, June, July, August, September and October.
Reservation- Deposit- Cancellation terms:
In order to make a reservation you need to provide a provide a valid email address. There you will receive a payment request through Paypal for 25% of the total value of your reservation. This will serve as a non-refundable down-payment. You can make this payment through a bank-transfer via your paypal account, or if you do not have a paypal account, you can pay directly using a credit-debit card. The rest of the balance (75%) is due in cash upon arrival to the property. If you do not wish to pay the remaining balance in cash, upon arrival, you also have the option of a second payment via paypal.
For off-season, long-term bookings:
Bookings during November, December, January & February do not include linen changes or cleaning during the stay, nor do they include the expenditure of heating. The price of the fuel used to heat the house and/or the pool will be calculated and paid upon departure.
