Location description
Rabac is the most famous tourist place of the Istrian peninsula east coast, situated in a bay beneath the old town of Labin and surrounded by hills on the mainland and by Kvarner Bay islands on the seaside. Due to the mild climate, beautiful pristine beaches, and crystal clear sea, it became already in the 19th century the target of excursionists and travel writers, among whom was also Richard Francis Burton. Although a small place, Rabac boasts rich gastronomic, sport and entertainment offer, as well as numerous hiking opportunities and proximity to important cultural sites.
On the hill in the background of Rabac lies the medieval town of Labin, a perfect blend of architecture, cultural and historical attractions from different eras and a rich offer of art galleries. Surely will not leave you indifferent the main square with a well preserved 16th century lodge, the cannon from the reign of Austria, the baroque palace converted into the National Museum, the 14th century three-nave church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary as well as many other cultural attractions. It should be also pointed out the permanent mining exhibition of about 150 m which, in the National Museum, testifies to the rich mining history of the town. At a distance of about 3 km there's an outdoor Sculpture park within which every year takes place an international art event – the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium.
