Location description
Silver Coast region
The Silver coast stretches from Lisbon to Fiqueria da Foz and boasts the best that Portugal has to offer. Here you can discover gorgeous villages and stunning coastal scenery that borders some of the best beaches in Europe. Over population and mass tourism is not a problem here. You can explore the enchanting cities of Lisbon and Porto whilst taking in the many towns and villages that are dotted in between on open roads and at a pace that suits you.
Obidos and local area
Obidos is a delightful Portuguese town that is steeped in history. For 700 years Obidos was the gift to every Queen of Portugal and rated as the brightest jewel in her crown. The medieval walls that encircle the town and its castle contain picturesque white washed houses and quaint cobbled streets. The traditional blue and yellow colourings of the town combined with its array of flowers really bring Obidos to life. There is an excellent choice of eateries and bars in which to refresh yourself having spent a day exploring the historical and cultural features. There is also the perfect opportunity for some retail therapy in the many shops that abound within the town walls.
As well as the town the local area provides something for everyone whether it be walking through the pine covered forests down to the famous Obidos lagoon where you can catch a deep sea fishing trip, to golfing your way round the Golden Triangle of the 3 newly constructed five star golf resorts, to making the most of the areas fabulous climate on one of the pristine sandy beaches or enjoying the range of water sports at Paniche.
Whatever your passion Obidos has it all on its doorstep.
Directions
On picking up a car from the car hire at Lisbon airport, you exit the car hire facility and turn immediately right on to the main road.
Proceed down the main road for about 1/2 mile and you will come to a very large roundabout.
Take the 1st right hand exit - it is marked 2nd to Curculo. This takes you onto the main Lisbon road and you stay on this road for approximately 1 mile until on your right hand side you see a sign marked AA Leirea.
You exit at this ramp and go down the off ramp to a set of traffic lights where you go straight on.
Travel along this road and you will go past sporting Lisbons football ground and merge with the A8 motorway.
The A8 motorway then winds it way through the outskirts of Lisbon and you stay straight on this road for a further 70km, passing such highlights as the Ikea shopping centre on the right hand side as you merge from Lisbon town centre and you continue on this. You will have joined at exit 1 and it is exit 15 which you leave. I would reiterate that it is approximately 70km and at Bombarral you will enter the toll section of the motorway where there will be a 4.20euros charge.
When you arrive at junction 15, which is clearly marked Obidos, take the turning and proceed down to the 1st roundabout where upon you will see the walled castle in front of you.
At the roundabout you proceed straight on towards the walled castle which will be on your right hand side.
After 200 yards there is a sharp left hand bend, proceed around and go past the main town centre car park.
You will come to a very small roundabout which will have a sign post for the Praia D El Rey golf course, proceed straight on.
After the roundabout proceed for 300 yards and you will see a sign on the right hand side headed R.de Pegada. Take this exit, which is a small side road, go past a school, continue down past an estate agency on the left, you will arrive at a T junction. Take the left turn at the T junction and then bear immediately right onto the R.de Pegada estate.
You will see a new development on your left after 30 yards, pass 3 houses the entrance to the estate is on your left hand side. As you enter the estate you will see the communal green in front of you and if you proceed down to the bottom of the estate (comprising of 10 houses) the property is number 10, situated in the bottom left hand corner, next to the very large private dwelling.
