Description
Monastiraki is a tiny settlement with only a handful of residents, but its position makes it a wonderful holiday location. Set among olive groves, the well appointed villa is an ideal relaxing base for any type of holiday. Private pool and beaches, shops and tavernas are just a short drive away.
In fact, two of the most charming tavernas are only a short walk away. The small taverna of Kapitanos Yiannis who serves the most delicious, fresh food, cooked by his wife Sophia and another owned by Babbis who who provides Greek food with a refreshing modern slant. These are reached by walking through the recently renovated village lanes. All in all a great location and a delightful villa to spend your ideal holiday. EOT 1040K91002898201

Location description
Monastiraki is a small Hamlet on the low slopes of mountains which surround the Lasithi plane which crosses the Island North to South at the Islands thinest point. This means you not only have a stunning view across the Gulf of Mirabella to Agios Nikolaos and the famous island of Spinalonga but you have easy access to both the beaches of the South and the North coast and its a great place to explore the Sitea Penisula. You are literally spoilt for choice with beaches. Our favourite beach is about 20 minutes away on the south coast heading East.
The hillside location means that there is often a gentle breeze even on the hottest day which with the pool makes things very bearable for those that find heat a challenge (the villa has full air-conditioning).
The villa is at the base of the Ha Canyon which is an easy walk and a very challenging climb.
The nearest major site of historical interest is part restored Minoan Town of Gornia but the area is dotted with archaeological sites and there is even one a few hundred meters behind the villa.
There are plenty of opportunities for walkers and the Villa is close to the E4 walking route.
The villa is nearest to the charming unsophisticated seaside town of Lerapetra where on Saturday you can visit the local Market or daily get the ferry to the beautiful Island of Krissi. Equally the villa is 20 minutes from Agios Nikolaos with its shops restuarants and markets and ferry to Spinalonga.
Directions
The best served International aiport on Crete is Heraklion (just over one hours drive from villa) which has services from most major cities with low cost and charters. It is also possible to fly into Chania with Ryan Air but this involves a drive of across the whole island (about 4 hours) It is also possible to fly into Athens with Ryan air and other carriers and take an onward flight to Heraklion or Sitea (this is the only air route off season) It is also quite pleasant to arrive by overnight ferry from Piraeus into Heraklion having flown into Athens.
We would recommend a hire car from Heraklion, drive East on good trunk roads to the costal village of Istron and then follow the coast road for a few km turning off towards Lerapetra at the beach village of Pachia Ammos After 3km turn singed for Monastiraki to the villa.
