    Description

    Herons Place is a self catering Slovenia villa with an excellent view of mountains. It comfortably accommodates 8 people with room for 2 more on the sofa bed. It was fully renovated in 2008 with new furniture. The Villa's front covered terrace with garden furniture is great for relaxing in: it is south facing, so you enjoy the sun from dawn till dusk whilst savouring the outstanding views of the surrounding meadows, mountains and woodland. It has 4 double bedrooms with plenty of storage for clothes; a big modern kitchen with small dining area; a living room accommodating up to 8 people: satellite tv with lots of dvds, cd player, books; a spacious dining room; 2 new bathrooms; a landing with seating area and hall. You will find plenty of information available in the house about Slovenia: places to go, things to do etc.

    The Villa has a separate roof terrace from the main bedroom, a large split level garden with trees and there is plenty of room for parking.

    There is plenty of wildlife around the house. Deer are plentiful in the adjacent forest and you can often see them from the house. You can also often watch buzzards and herons flying in front of the terrace. The latter nest in the tall trees next to the house (hence the house's name, Herons' Place).

    You only have a 5 minute walk to the riverside pub that serves excellent fresh trout. It is ideal for you to relax, enjoy a variety of local outdoor pursuits, experience cultural activities and have fun. The house is ideal for family holidays in Slovenia. As well as offering some of the best walking in Slovenia it is centrally located in the country so is great base from which to explore this small, diverse and fascinating country.

    Location description

    The villa is in a beautiful natural valley ideal for either relaxing or exploring: there is a wide variety of great walks in the valley and adjacent mountains. It is a great base for a Slovenia walking holiday.

    There are several taverns within 1.5km walking distance. The friendly riverside tavern only 700m away from the house serves fresh trout. At 3km away, Gornji Grad is the nearest town to the house. It is small but has a variety of restaurants, including an excellent pizzeria, shops and a bank; and is on the intersection of many famous hiking trails. Mozirje is a larger town with many shops and supermarkets and is an easy 14km drive away. Towering over Mozirje is Golte, a wonderful mountain plateau that offers excellent skiing and walking. The mountain is drivable but is also served by frequent gondolas throughout July and August and the ski season, making the villa a good base for a winter family holiday.

    Other activities

    A number of museums, spas and restaurants are a short drive away. Also nearby is rafting, kayaking, horse riding, skiing (15km), archery and cycle hire. The central location makes a great base for day trips to the capital of Ljubljana, the famous Postjona caves, the smaller cities of Celje, Maribor and Ptuj, the eastern wine trail and, for a longer day, the coast.

    There are various local events at different times of the year.

    Tourist attractions

    The area is well known in Slovenia for is spectacular alpine scenery and is very popular amongst local people, however, it still relatively 'undiscovered' by foreign travel companies. Nearby attractions include the famous and spectacular valley of Logarska Dolina and the high plateaus of Velika Planina and Golte. The Dreta river flows only 200 meters from the house with good trout fishing (you need to buy a local licence).

    * 2 hours: Graz airport (Ryan Air), travelling from London, Stansted airport
    * 2.25 hours: Klagenfurt airport (Ryan Air), travelling from London, Stansted airport
    * 2.25 hours: Triest airport (Ryan Air), travelling from London, Stansted airport
    * 3 hours: Venice airport (Easy Jet), travelling from London, Stansted airport

    Alternatively, you can drive your own car across Europe to the house. We live in South Cheshire and we do this once a year when we stay for 2 weeks.

    Deposit/Booking Notes

    Electricity, gas and firewood are all included. If you wish to use the fresh duvets, sheets and towels an additional charge is made of Euro 7 per person. For more than four people, extra guests cost an additional Euro 20 per week per individual.

    On arrival you should be welcomed by a Dutch resident of Slovenia who manages the house. He will show you to the property. You pay him a Eur 300 deposit which you get back on your departure less a Eur 40 charge for cleaning.

    Pets are considered but may require an extra charge.

    Please reserve your prefered booking dates with a non-refundable Euro 100 deposit. The balance should be paid at least 30 days before the start date. Late bookings are also possible but require immediate payment.
