Description
New style, custom built chic villa with simple and restful architecture in harmony with the countryside, embracing soft colours and a cool blue. Open space with local stone barrel shaped roofs and plenty of natural light. Two double bedrooms, each with a private shower room.
Villa Rodrigo is a natural accommodation for the adventurist needing a reference point for exploring the south of Italy, Puglia; the rocks of Matera, the rocky coastline of the Adriatic and the wide boulevard beaches of the Ionian; the national parks of the Gargano and the Tremiti Islands through to the deep, deep south - passing through the archeological city of Lecce and as far as Marina di Leuca, Otranto, Gallipoli etc.
Puglia covers nearly 20,000 square kms – a hec of a lot to see!
Location
Live the atmosphere, the culture in this fascinating land between two seas. Villa Rodrigo is cited in the Valle d’Itria, within a short distance of 5kms or 30, in any direction, the choice is almost embarrassing! If you don’t have your feet in water; discover monuments, cathedrals, UNESCO sites, dunes, gorges, valleys, ravines, forests, nature reserves and so much more.
We celebrate food and wine and hereto you must try, we insist! - the superstars of gastronomy, the delicacies and specialities of each area.
Friends & Family
Designed for a small family or couples and friends, to be cool in a sunny warm place.
Interiors
Seems old and traditional…but Villa Rodrigo is a custom built new home. Spacious for four or even six. Two double bedrooms, one of which has an ensuite shower room. Light is an important feature with bedroom two overlooking the pool.
Contemporary open lounge (with sofa) and kitchen meets your holiday needs. The bones matter! The property faces south on to the swimming pool, veranda for dining, gazebo for reading with a his and hers external shower.
Exteriors
The land is organized allowing the home to maintain its distance from neighbours and roads. Hedge rows complete the natural need for privacy. Outside BBQ and stone table in the shade of the majestic big Oak. The rear green lawns bring a coolness to an otherwise sun-soaked setting.
And the pool is almost unnoticed, set aside for use in the peppery summer heat.

The beaches of the Adriatica are only a 25 minute drive away. The Adriatic can also be visited by boat from the ports of Monopoli or Polignano a Mare. A number of water sports are also available just a short drive away from the Villa. Alternatively there is an water park near Egnazia.
Alternatively the Ionian Coast, although further away, is a perfect Day Trip as the beaches are perfect for water sports and the wide boulevard beaches are rarely overly populated with visitors.
Cisternino - Voted one of the most beautiful villages in all of Italy!
You've just booked your villa in Puglia and you may be wondering where would the best place to visit as a meat lover; in which case, Cisternino should be high on your list of places worth visiting, especially at dinner time!
Recently recognised among Italy's most beautiful villages, Cisternino is a little town perched about 400 m above sea-level with a fantastic architecture of milky houses, flowered balconies, steep stairs as well as stunning views over the Itria Valley where some of our most luxurious trulli and villas to rent in Puglia are located.
In the old town there are plenty of butcher shops to choose from, enjoy a tasty meal together with your family and friends. Butcher shops are also known as Fornelli Pronti (literally "ready ovens") and this is how they work: you go to the counter, point out what you want and then it's up to you if you want to take meat home or have it grilled on the spot directly at the butcher!
You can also decide whether to eat right there in the butcher shop or out on the street! Local meat includes: sausages with veal or pork meat, gnummareddi (a mixture of lamb's organs - spleen, liver, heart, lung -, rolled up and tied with the animal's intestines) and, above all, the popular bombette, small pork rolls seasoned with salt, pepper, parsley and little pieces of cheese...
Sorry, did I make you hungry? Then, it's time to experience a Fornello in Cisternino!
In Cisternino, do not miss:
• Piazza Vittorio Emanuele (the central square) boasting the Clock Tower;
• The Amati Palace
• The bishop's palace, built in 1560, with its late renaissance style facade marked with the coat of arms of the bishop-baron;
• The Governor's palace (XVI century) with its elegant facade and triple balcony with decorative renaissance elements;
• The palaces of the Pepe and Cenci families;
• The church of Saint Lucia (XVII century) and, outside the walls, the Amati tower and palace;
• St. Cataldo church, completed in 1783 in Baroque style with its beautiful facade;
• The church of St. Quirico;
• The Mother Church of S. Nicola, of Romanesque origin.
Now that you have visited and tasted what Cisternino has to offer, you and your family will be ready to return to the comfortable surroundings of your holiday villa in Puglia!
Ostuni - the bright town with white slaked limestone.
Take your time to visit Ostuni, the bright town with white slaked limestone, standing between the green countryside and the blue sea. Perched on three hills, on the Adriatic Sea, the town owes its nickname La Cittŕ Bianca (The White Town) to its whitewashed walls and its typically white-painted architecture.
The town is surrounded by a medieval fortress wall, from which you can admire a breathtaking panorama overlooking a countryside with endless olive trees and the Adriatic sea that meets the crystal-clear sky on the horizon. The lively and picturesque old town is built on top of the hill and you're welcome to wander through a maze of narrow, winding streets, where everything is incredibly clean and everywhere is a blinding sun!
The old town is dominated by the Cathedral, a blend of Romanesque, Gothic and Venetian, standing as a crown at the very top of the hill!
In Ostuni, do not miss:
• The Column of Sant'Oronzo in Piazza della Libertŕ (the main square);
• The Town Hall and the Church of S. Francis of Assisi;
• The portal of the Church of the Holy Spirit, which dates back to 1450, now recognised as a national monument;
• The ancient doors and walls of the town dating back to the Aragona dominations;
• St. James of Compostela Church (the oldest Church in Ostuni);
• The Feast of Sant'Oronzo, the patron Saint of the town. It takes place in August from 25th to 27th. Among the many events the most striking is the "Ride", where the statue of the Saint is escorted in a procession by a group of knights in a red costume getting on sumptuously caparisoned horses.
Other activities
Tennis club close by. Chef in house. Bike tours with Guide arranged locally. Bike Hire arranged locally. Ideal cycling country.
Directions
Puglia is served by two main airports Brindisi and Bari, however, a number of visitors to the area prefer to have a two stay holiday and include Rome (5 hours) or Naples (4 hours) in their visit to Italy, taking a hire car and from that point reach Puglia.
Equally, Pescara in the north is served by a large airport but you must allow a 4.5 hour drive.
Also by arriving from the airports of Brindisi or Bari, will allow you to visit Matera, which has been nominated the European Capital of Culture 2019.
Matera is definately worth a visit whether you include it in your arrival or departure itinerary or take a trip from Puglia as a day out. It is 1.5 hours from Cisternino for example.
You will need a car when visiting Puglia and also for travelling locally for shopping. We can organise taxis or transfers too if you prefer to land at the chosen airport then take a transfer, thereby hiring a car locally. We are able to organise this on your behalf to facilitate your arrival. Removing the stress of queues etc.
Both Bari and Brindisi airports have the major airlines in attendance inclusive of Ryan Air, Easyjet, British Airways, Alitalia etc.
During the summer the northern area of Britain is better served by the airlines with direct flights from Dublin, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol etc. If you need any help, please do not hesitate to ask.
