    Maison Maitre sleeps up to 10.
    A 4 bedroom house with private pool. Internet access. Views of the private park. Located at the edge of Preroux with restaurants and shops in the main village of Perignac, Maison Maitre offers you a calm environment within easy distance of all amenities. The Charente-Maritime is a special area of fine sandy beaches, pretty islands and white-washed villages, towns and buildings steeped in history. Along the coast are more than 100 beaches.

    Maison Maitre is approached by a private driveway. This beautiful house is set in grounds of over two acres of which over an acre is a mature park of fruit and other deciduous and evergreen trees. It is found on the edge of the village of Perignac in the midst of Charentais vineyards and farm land. Originally the Masters House, Maison Maitre dates back to the 18th century and until only a few years ago, cognac was still distilled on the premises.

    Maison Maitre is faced in traditional cut stone and is entered through large oak double doors. The entrance is fronted by a long wide balustraded terrace from which to take in the vista of the park. The inside has very generous double aspect rooms. There are many traditional features typical of a French country house of its period including a sweeping timber staircase and marble fireplaces. There are views from the main house to the south and East over the beautiful private park and the farm land in the distance.

    A master bedroom with four poster bed. Second bedroom with double bed. Third bedroom has two sets of bunk beds and a single. Fourth bedroom has twin beds that can be combined as a double. Bedrooms 1, 2 and Salon have sofas or divans that convert to additional double beds.

    Large family bathroom upstairs with bath, mixer tap and shower, bidet, toilet and basin.

    Separate toilet with wash hand basin in rear hall.

    In the longere, at the rear of the house, is a large kitchen-diner. This is fitted with a cooker, microwave, dishwasher, large refrigerator and second fridge-freezer. There is a large dining table which comfortably seats 12. A real family meeting centre.

    In the kitchen is a dishwasher and in the rear hall there is a washing machine with drying facilities for holiday laundry. An iron and ironing board are also available.

    The salon entered through large double doors has double aspect views of the park. It is comfortably furnished with large sofas, a convertible divan, a coffee table, and a formal area for dining. There is a marble fireplace with an open fire grate.

    Bed linen and bath towels are included with the property. We do not provide beach and pool towels, please bring these with you.

    Location description

    The village of Perignac lies one kilometre to the east. It has an excellent restaurant (La Gourmandiere), restaurant bar (L'Orchidee) and Pizza take away, village store, and boulangerie for fresh daily bread all within walking/cycling distance. Every Sunday morning, a stall sells fresh oysters in the square outside the village church and on Tuesdays there is a full fish stall in the same square.

    Only 8 kilometers away is the town of Pons which has all the local shops visitors are likely to need and one of the best restaurants in the area in the Hotel Bordeaux. The town of Cognac is a 20 minute drive by car and Bordeaux, Saintes, Royan and the Atlantic coast can all be reached in under 1 hour.

    Directions

    Brittany Ferries via Portsmouth to St Malo returning Caen to Portsmouth provides a pleasant start and finish to the holiday with the opportunity to enjoy dinner on the way out and a snack on the return with a cabin to sleep the journey away. Arriving at about 8 am in St Malo, the house is only a 4 hour drive away along dual carriageways and Autoroutes to within 15 kilometres of the property. A discounted fare can be obtained through the owners.
