Description
Derwent House is a superbly restored, elegant, spacious and luxurious Grade II listed Georgian house. It beautifully combines its original character with smart and contemporary furnishings to give the ambiance of a 'boutique hotel' and the freedom of self catering.
A wonderful house for reunions and family gatherings, it sits in a peaceful conservation area cul de sac, overlooking the River Derwent and beside a park with colourful gardens, bowling, tennis courts, children's play area and boating pond.
A variety of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafés are all within close walking distance. The house is also situated close to he railway station, which has regular connections to Derby and Nottingham.
Glorious walking country surrounds the town and the delights of the Peak District are readily accessible. In particular the splendor of Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Peveril Castle provide a glimpse into times gone by. Matlock Bath boasts the Heights of Abraham Cable Cars and Caverns Mining Museum. A wide variety of activities are available locally, including water sports, cycle hire and pony trekking.

Location description
Matlock's growth was rapid during the Victorian period and it became a fashionable resort in conjunction with nearby Matlock Bath, helped by a road cut through the crags at Cromford. The town owes much of its status to John Smedley, who built Riber Castle, the mock medieval castle overlooking the town, as well as the impressive Smedley's Hydro, now headquarters of the County Council.
The newly renovated parks alongside the River Derwent are ideal for families with boating, play areas and a skateboarding park, all linked with easy walking paths. The town is also home to Peak Rail, where at weekends you can ride on one of the many regular steam trains or even enjoy a footplate experience and drive the train yourself.
Other activities
Walking, sporting activities, historic houses and adventure parks. The surrounding area has attractions to suit all tastes.
