    Description

    Lapwing House was new to the rental market in Spring 2011 and is set in a quiet village with a bar and restaurant only 100m away. The village is a 15 minute drive to the beaches of the Vendee, where you will find plenty to do - either relaxing in the sun, building sand castles or surfing in the waves.

    This is a great location for a family holiday and there are lots of tourist attractions to keep you all occupied - such as the Aquarium at La Rochelle, the Indian Adventure Park or the fantastic Puy du Fou Theme Park.

    If you just want to relax in the garden - there is a 5.5m x 4.5m above ground pool and sheltered areas to sit and read or sunny areas to top up your tan.

    Lapwing House has been lovingly restored over the years by its owners and is now laid out as a comfortable holiday home for up to 8 guests. There is a large living room with TV and UK satellite channels, with a large wood burning stove for the cooler months.

    Steps lead up to the open plan dining room and kitchen area, where you will find a large dining table & chairs and doors with views across the village square and into the large back garden. The kitchen is equipped with a gas/electric hob, oven, microwave and enough crockery and cutlery for up to 8 guests.

    The washing machine and dishwasher are located in the summer kitchen behind the main kitchen.

    Stairs from the living room lead up to two of the bedrooms, one has a double bed, plus a single bed and travel cot, and the other has two single beds. There is also a shower room on the first floor with shower cubicle, WC and hand basin. A stairgate has been fitted for the security of your children.

    There are a two bedrooms on the ground floor (one double and the other with two single beds) next to the family bathroom which has a corner bath and hand basin. There is a separate WC in the hallway nearby. The hallway also has plenty of storage space for luggage and a doorway into the summer kitchen where you will find a further table and chairs, along with a built in BBQ and games area. There are sliding patio doors to the patio and garden from this room.

    The house is set back from the road in the central square of the village, with a small bar/restaurant only a stone's throw away. There is an open front garden and a gated back garden with great views down across the local Marais Communal.

    There is a patio area next to the kitchen and then a flat lawned area with patio table & chairs - a great place for al fresco dining. The lawned area then slopes gently down to the bottom of the garden and there are many fruit trees planted - so you can enjoy picking your own plums, peaches, apples, pears and grapes straight from the vine!

    There is a gravelled area with lockable gates where up to three cars can be parked.

    Location description

    Lairoux is a quiet village on a hill overlooking the flat plains of the surrounding countryside. There is a bar with a restaurant only 100metres away and this is a good starting point for rambling through the country lanes.

    Lucon is only 10 minutes away and makes a nice day out with a visit to the 600 year old cathedral or a saunter around the Jardin Dumaine. There are also many shops and a weekly market here. In the summer months the town comes alive with music festivals - classical, French and modern, along with firework displays and exhibitions.

    The surrounding countryside is great to explore and there are many guided walks around the area - stopping off in many of the picturesque little villages for a coffee or beer - many having weekly markets and brocante or antiques fairs at the weekends.

    For a more active holiday, there are many watersports available at La Tranche or Les Sables D'Olonne including surfing, sand kiting, diving and jet skiing.

    We are also within 60 minutes drive of the theme parks of Puy de Fou and Futuroscope.

    The Vendee is reputed to be the second sunniest region of France and has lots of excellent beaches from as little as 20 minutes away from the village. This is an ideal base for walking or cycling holidays and Lairoux is on the edge of the local marshes (Le Marais Communal).

    The countryside is a bird watchers paradise and there is a newly built hide on the edge of the Marais. There are also 5 golf courses in the area and for a more tranquil day out - Le Marais Poitevin is only 30 minutes away where you can hire boats and take a trip out through the many canals.

    Other activities

    There are miles of sandy beaches nearby, starting from only 20 minutes away. You will be able to relax and sun bathe, build sand castles, surf, bodyboard or explore the many rock pools.

    Local events

    In the summer, all of the neighbouring villages hold ftes and fayres and there are many regional markets in the larger towns as well.

    Tourist attractions

    The area has many tourist attractions - from Indian Forest Adventure Parks, to Go-Karting and Car Museums. There are also the 2 fantastic theme parks of the Puy du Fou and Futuroscope - great places to spend a day!

    Directions

    Lapwing House is located in the southern Vendee and is only a 20 minute drive from Junction 6 (Chantonnay) of the A83 Motorway.

    The closest ferry port is St Malo which is only a 3.5 hour drive; alternatively herbourg is 5 hours away and Calais is 7.5 hours away.

    The area is served by two airports - Nantes is 1 hour away and La Rochelle is only 40 minutes away. Both have flights from Budget Airlines such as RyanAir, Easyjet and Jet 2. Car hire is available at both airports.
