Description
Our beautiful and well-appointed home offers a peaceful retreat in a traditional Spanish pueblo, nestled amongst citrus groves, with beach resorts, golf & historic cities being just minutes away.
The house is well laid out for easy living.
The ground floor is made up of a spacious lounge, equipped with air conditioning, comfortable sofas, satellite TV & DVD player, a dining area and a separate kitchen. There is a ground floor shower room with w.c., equipped with a multi-functional overhead & body shower. One of the sofas converts into a comfortable double bed, so the house can properly accommodate someone who finds stairs difficult.
The first floor has the house bathroom and two bedrooms, both air conditioned, with built-in wardrobes, drawer chests and radio alarm clocks. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, whilst the second bedroom has twin single beds and both bedrooms have doors leading onto a shared south-facing balcony which has a table and chairs.
The spacious roof solarium has sun loungers, outdoor dining set & barbecue. The garden terrace has a further dining set and flower bed.
Facing South on the foothills of the stunning Sierra de Colombares regional park, our home offers panoramic views over the village and countryside beyond towards the coast from the large roof terrace which is great for al fresco dining or relaxing. Staying here, you are in true rural Spain, away from the commercial tourist resorts but conveniently close for you to visit them easily. You will be staying a short drive away from historic cities, such as Murcia or Cartagena, safe bathing or water-sports in the Mar Menor, breath-taking scenery, golf, angling, wildlife or vineyards. Take your pick...or simply relax, soaking up the sun and the village atmosphere.

Location description
La Tercia is a truly Spanish village & we enjoy a walk through it of a morning, exchanging greetings with the locals and visiting the bakery to buy warm, freshly baked bread, croissants or pastries for the day. We might call in at either of the two grocer's shops on the way back for delicious cold meats, cheeses and vegetables with wine, straight from the barrel. Add in a pharmacy, newsagent, hairdresser, two tapas bar/restaurants, offering breakfast or a 'menu del día' lunch and a bar, you can laze away, perhaps enjoying some of the walks in the area along which you can pick fruit & nuts.
The village is served by bus and a good rail link is in the next village if you'd like to venture further afield, however, if you enjoy touring, it is well worth hiring a car to be able to fully appreciate the stunning scenery of this area and visit the fabulous ancient cities of Murcia & Cartagena.
Activities in the immediate area include golf, angling, walking, climbing, cycling and birdwatching. In the coastal region, water sports of all kinds are available, along with safe bathing in the warm, calm & shallow waters of the Mar Menor (Little Sea) & the usual facilities of modern resorts. Also close by are the salt lakes and regional parks (including Spains largest bird reserve) which offer protection to flocks of flamingos, wild life and migratory birds.
The area is blessed with several established golf courses, such as Hacienda Riquelme, a Jack Nicklaus course & La Peraleja, designed by Sevvy Ballesteros, both a 5 minute drive away. Also El Valle, Villamartin, Las Ramblas, Campoamor, La Finca and, of course, La Manga. In addition, there are as many under construction or near completion. See the map at http://www.costacalida.com/images/Mapa%20Golf%20Murcia.jpg for most of the courses.
Murcia town is a truly congenial, unspoilt, deeply Spanish little city, hemmed in by mountains, where sitting in a flower-filled square enjoying some tapas with a drink is one of life’s greatest pleasures. This university town is an exciting mix of the contemporary and traditional: tree-lined avenues, modern parks and quaint cafés blend with an Old Quarter that harks back to the city’s Moorish roots & includes the breath-taking 14th Century Cathedrál de Santa Maria. On the outskirts of the city is Terra Natura, a zoo & Aqua Natura, its water park; both well worth a visit.
Be sure, also, to visit the truly ancient port of Cartagena on the coast. This wonderful city has hosted countless civilisations over millennia, most of which have left their mark on the culture and architecture. The harbour mouth is a formidable natural defence which has been developed by man, most recently in WW II and was the location of much of the filming of "The Guns of Navarone."
Other activities
The train journey from nearby Balsicas into either Murcia or Cartagena is worth doing. Each is entirely different; to Murcia is through the mountains, whilst the Cartagena trip passes through the orchards & farmlands towards the coast.
Local events
The province of Murcia is big on fiestas which are held on the slightest pretext & many are peculiar to this region alone. The major ones, common to other areas of Spain are throughout Easter week, Epiphany week (the Spanish Christmas celebration) and the 'Moors & Christians' events during September; in addition, you will find many smaller fiestas in cities, towns & villages throughout the province. La Tercia itself hosts a 9 day fiesta for the people of the district in July every year. There are parades, concerts, huge paella parties, barbecues and many other events for young & old, at which everyone is welcome, Spanish or not.
Tourist attractions
Murcia mixes 500 years' worth of Islamic architecture and influence with a fascinating old town of beautiful churches & museums; high-class shops, markets and world-beating food abound. Be sure to visit the immense cathedral which took over 300 years to build & the restored casino with its stunning Moorish decoration.
On the outskirts of the city is Terra Natura, a zoo (http://www.terranatura.com/eng/Inicio/Index.aspx) & Aqua Natura, its water park; both well worth a visit.
Cartagena boasts thousands of years of culture & one of the world's oldest ports, still busy as a naval base & cruise stop. There's a tourist ticket combining a guided jump on/off bus tour with a pleasure boat ride through the harbour and out into the Mediterranean, giving you a view of the breath-taking natural defenses, within which nestles Cala Cortina. This is a lovely place to spend a few hours on the shingle beach or swimming & enjoying the excellent food from the beachfront restaurant.

Great accomodation
Steve and Sandra have a wonderful home and the property was as described, clean and well maintained the villa has everthing you would need. On arrival at the property we were met by Bev and Laurie who gave us all the information on the villa and the surrounding area.
The village is in a rural location with three places to eat and have a drink, lots of places to visit in the surrounding area and you will need a car the Mar Menor is not to far and well worth a visit, Recommended by Steve we took the scenic route from the village to Murcia, which goes over the hills the views are stunning.
Great holiday great value.
