Description
Beautiful beaches; excellent food and wonderful hospitality in the local, family-run tavernas, bars and restaurants; ancient sites within an easy drive; and a very good selection of activities - walking, swimming, horse-riding, sailing, etc., all add up to a holiday destination offering something for everyone.
The views from Amelies House are stunning - taking in the Taygetos Mountains on the opposite side of the Gulf of Messinia, Kalamata, the surrounding countryside and the harbour town of Koroni. It is a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy Greece at its best.
Amelies House and Villa Elizabeth were built by a local builder in 2008 and are set in two acres of olive groves and garden.
The House has a well-equipped kitchen, modern, easy accommodation which we hope will provide our guests with a home from home during their holidays.
From Amelies House it is a short walk (500 m.) through the olive groves to the local beach at Gargarou. From here you can wander along the sand to Peroulia Beach, which has a beach taverna and hillside restaurant (accessible by lift). Sun loungers and bar service on the beach provided by Restaurant Akti make this a wonderful place for a relaxing day.
Beaches are also easily accessible by car.
The busy farming village of Charakopio has two tavernas, one pizzeria and many bars, as well as local shops and a supermarket. There is also a fruit and vegetable market held every Sunday in the village car park.
The bustling, lively town of Koroni is only a 5 km. drive away. Waterfront tavernas and bars provide a perfect setting for eating out. The Koroni Arts Festival runs from June to October each year with a wide variety of musical events. The open air summer concerts held in the grounds of the Monastery in Koroni are magical.
Zaga and Memi Beaches are situated to the west of Koroni and have beach tavernas and sun loungers.

Further afield, you have the lovely harbour towns of Agios Andreas, Finikounda and Methoni and many quiet bays and beaches within a short drive.
Relaxing by the pool, a day on the beach, a leisurely meal in one of the many local tavernas, exploring the local countryside and towns, the choice is yours.
There is free Wifi at the house and we provide a Welcome Basket for our guests which includes our own olive oil and olives, homemade jam/marmalade and local wine. Guests are welcome to help themselves to any fruit in our garden - apricots, figs, apples, lemons, mandarins and oranges depending on the season. There is also a selection of paperbacks, board games, and a radio with iPod player.

Location description
Messinia with its plethora of hidden bays and wide, sandy beaches is an ideal place to unwind and relax. If you would like to venture away from the sea and tavernas, the towns of Koroni, Finikounda, Methoni and Pylos are all within an easy drive from Charakopio. Polilimnio, the Waterfalls, are a delight to visit and are only about 30 minutes drive from Amelie's House. The city of Kalamata, with its marvellous food market, Marina and harbour areas, Castle and Monastery is well worth a visit.

Directions
Kalamata International Airport, with flights from London Gatwick (easyJet), London Heathrow (British Airways) and Manchester (Thomas Cook) is about 40 km. from Amelie's House. There are also flights into Kalamata from many other European countries making this part of Greece easily accessible. Car hire available at Kalamata Airport (information on Kalamata Airport's website or ask us for details of local car hire companies).
Athens International Airport is approximately 4 hours from Amelie's House by car. Motorway (tolls payable) through to Kalamata and then main road to Charakopio.
It is also possible to travel from both Kalamata and Athens Airports by bus (KTEL bus company). Express service from Kiffisos Bus Station, Athens, to Kalamata takes 2 3/4 hours. Please ask for details.
Ferries from Italy - (Venice, Ancona, Bari) to Patras, which is approximately 250 km. from Charakopio.
