    Description

    A wander through Puglia takes you back in time to visit the architecture of a by-gone era: the trulli of the Valle d'Itria. These conical shaped houses are unique to this area, linked by arches and dotted with alcoves, creating a distinct and magical atmosphere evident in exceptional accommodation like Villa Libellula. The red earth of the olive groves, the rolling countryside, the contact with nature surrounding Villa Libellula will provide a memorable holiday experience.

    Location
    Villa Libellula is located in the Valle d’Itria, virtually in the centre of Puglia, close to the small village of Sisto. Amidst the valleys and hills of the countryside, between the Adriatic Sea on one side and the Ionian Sea on the other, the Valle d’Itria has a unique mix of towns really worth a visit; Martina Franca with its baroque architecture, Cisternino and its panoramic views, Locorotondo and its indefinable charm, Alberobello - the city of trulli, Ceglie Messapica famed for its gastronomy and the dazzling white city of Ostuni.

    The villa stands in a country setting with charming views. Scattered along the neighbouring lanes are a mix of original and restored trulli. Sisto Village has many practical amenities including restaurants, a bar, and a mini-market on the road out to Locorotondo.

    Friends & Family
    Plan a visit with your friends and family; we have room for 6, or 7 at a squeeze. Organise a special event, celebrate an anniversary or simply enjoy the holiday that you deserve; and we are here to help make it happen. You will find spacious living accommodation with three bedrooms spread over an area of 140 square metres; the property facilitates privacy and personal space for all its guests.

    Interiors
    Villa Libellula is a very spacious L-shaped property all on ground floor level. The original trulli are interconnected to the more recent construction providing an appealing spread of accommodation. The property presents three full sized bedrooms; two doubles and a twin bedroom (extra single available).

    A large gazebo to the front of the main entrance facilitates outside dining for 6/7 overlooking the courtyard. From here, large double glazed doors take you in to the modern extension consisting of a bright and airy sitting/dining room with air con unit and through to the singles bedroom (2 or 3 beds) with its own air con unit and private shower room. Note this shower room can be accessed independently from the sitting/dining room without going through the bedroom.

    The kitchen flows adjacent to the dining room and yet remains out of view when seated at the table. It is well-equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, hob and oven. A kitchen patio lies outside the back door, with a sun umbrella and table and chairs, an ideal spot to enjoy your first coffee of the day in the morning sun.

    From the kitchen, a corridor leads to the spacious main double bedroom. This was originally the wine cellar and the exposed stone walls and high ceilings ensure the room remains cool and airy in the summer temperatures.

    The corridor continues to the recently renovated larger family shower room, equipped with washing machine.

    A high arch invites you into the lounge which has double doors leading out onto the front courtyard.
    This is a large and comfortable space with two settees, traditional stone fireplace and TV. A second arch leads to another trullo furnished with bookshelves and a desk for those quiet moments we all yearn for. This connects to the final and third bedroom; a comfortable space furnished with an antique dressing table and large, built-in wardrobe.

    Exteriors
    A large stone paved square, shaded by a magnificent magnolia tree and a tall fir tree, separates the villa from the grounds and swimming pool. The salt-based swimming pool (10 x 4m and 1.5m in depth) is a calming aquamarine colour, surrounded by greenery and colourful shrubs and fauna ensuring total privacy.

    At your disposal is a spectacular barbecue with an outside sink carved from its original stone; yet another gazebo by the pool for outside dining or simply some shade; a shower with hot and cold water; a vegetable plot available from spring to autumn; and a main entrance with automatic gates.

    The land of approximately 6,000 square metres is partially enclosed by fencing and by dry stone walls. it is populated with numerous olive trees, an enormous walnut tree, fig, apricot and and other fruit trees, edible grape vines, ornate palms, flowering trees and shrubs and various cooking herbs.

    Without a doubt, Villa Libellula has a magical atmosphere throughout the year, it is an ideal environment for nature lovers and a great base for exploring all the best that Puglia has to offer.

    Cisternino - Voted one of the most beautiful villages in all of Italy!
    You've just booked your villa in Puglia and you may be wondering where would the best place to visit as a meat lover; in which case, Cisternino should be high on your list of places worth visiting, especially at dinner time!

    Recently recognised among Italy's most beautiful villages, Cisternino is a little town perched about 400 m above sea-level with a fantastic architecture of milky houses, flowered balconies, steep stairs as well as stunning views over the Itria Valley where some of our most luxurious trulli and villas to rent in Puglia are located.

    In the old town there are plenty of butcher shops to choose from, enjoy a tasty meal together with your family and friends. Butcher shops are also known as Fornelli Pronti (literally "ready ovens") and this is how they work: you go to the counter, point out what you want and then it's up to you if you want to take meat home or have it grilled on the spot directly at the butcher!

    You can also decide whether to eat right there in the butcher shop or out on the street! Local meat includes: sausages with veal or pork meat, gnummareddi (a mixture of lamb's organs - spleen, liver, heart, lung -, rolled up and tied with the animal's intestines) and, above all, the popular bombette, small pork rolls seasoned with salt, pepper, parsley and little pieces of cheese...

    Sorry, did I make you hungry? Then, it's time to experience a Fornello in Cisternino!

    In Cisternino, do not miss:
    • Piazza Vittorio Emanuele (the central square) boasting the Clock Tower;
    • The Amati Palace
    • The bishop's palace, built in 1560, with its late renaissance style facade marked with the coat of arms of the bishop-baron;
    • The Governor's palace (XVI century) with its elegant facade and triple balcony with decorative renaissance elements;
    • The palaces of the Pepe and Cenci families;
    • The church of Saint Lucia (XVII century) and, outside the walls, the Amati tower and palace;
    • St. Cataldo church, completed in 1783 in Baroque style with its beautiful facade;
    • The church of St. Quirico;
    • The Mother Church of S. Nicola, of Romanesque origin.

    Now that you have visited and tasted what Cisternino has to offer, you and your family will be ready to return to the comfortable surroundings of your holiday villa in Puglia!

    Directions

    Puglia is served by two main airports Brindisi and Bari, however, a number of visitors to the area prefer to have a two stay holiday and include Rome (5 hours) or Naples (4 hours) in their visit to Italy, taking a hire car and from that point reach Puglia.
    Equally, Pescara in the north is served by a large airport but you must allow a 4.5 hour drive.
    Also by arriving from the airports of Brindisi or Bari, will allow you to visit Matera, which has been nominated the European Capital of Culture 2019.
    Matera is definately worth a visit whether you include it in your arrival or departure itinerary or take a trip from Puglia as a day out. It is 1.5 hours from Cisternino for example.
    You will need a car when visiting Puglia and also for travelling locally for shopping. We can organise taxis or transfers too if you prefer to land at the chosen airport then take a transfer, thereby hiring a car locally. We are able to organise this on your behalf to facilitate your arrival. Removing the stress of queues etc.
    Both Bari and Brindisi airports have the major airlines in attendance inclusive of Ryan Air, Easyjet, British Airways, Alitalia etc.
    During the summer the northern area of Britain is better served by the airlines with direct flights from Dublin, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol etc. If you need any help, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Dear Ashley (owner)
    Graham and I have just returned from a really beautiful part of the world - your villa in Puglia is absolutely delightful and we've spent a very happy week there with our son Alex and Caroline and their children.

    We feel very honoured to have been able to enjoy such a glorious spot. The garden full of a multitude of fruit and veg, the beautiful pool, the comfy and roomy little Trulli house, perfectly adapted to holiday living, the peace and quiet of the countryside and yet so close to the pretty little Italian villages with all their historic buildings and welcoming restaurants!! Enchanting...

    It gave us quality time with our family and we enjoyed it hugely - many many thanks for giving us all such a real treat!!

    With very best wishes
    Sincerely
    Roufina and Graham
