Description
The Logis de Chassagne is something rare:
A historic home where the owners have created two charming houses for rent in the heart of a residence of character surrounded by an estate of 4ha - and close to the beaches.
It is situated between the Ocean and the Seudre estuary in Charente-Maritime with easy access to Royan and La Rochelle, the islands of Ré and Aix, the Corderie Royale in Rochefort, Saintes and the vineyards of Bordeaux and the Médoc.
The Logis de Chassagne is a remarkable 14th century residence, extended in the 17th century that we, as lovers of refined decoration and contemporary comfort, have rehabilitated.
We have preserved many period features (original exposed stonework, ceilings with grandiose beams, large fully restored working fireplaces…).
We look forward to welcoming guests who are looking for a different kind of holiday… life in a château…
The artist's studio is located in the Chaix.
The Contemporary House
(Number of persons: 4)
This large house is situated on two floors with a total of 115 sq m surface area. Here we have brought together the charm of the old with a very contemporary style of furnishing, decoration and stimulating colours.
On the ground floor, with its huge ceilings of 3m50, is a large dining room of some 30 sq m with a fully fitted open kitchen adjoining and a living room. The kitchen area has good natural lighting and a farmhouse table with Philippe Starck chairs. The flooring is dark grey metallic; the large stone fireplace dating from the beginning of last century is fitted with a wood-burning stove; the beams are exposed and the room looks out onto the main courtyard. The living room (20 sq m) overlooks the terrace and the park.
A narrow flight of stairs leads to the first floor, into the eves and the 17th century roof structure. The large bedroom (15 sq m) with parquet made from tropical wood (wenge), whitewashed walls and beams is a haven of peace. The decoration is decidedly modern with white gloss Austin Powers furniture (1m60 king-size bed, two console tables, two small seats, a mirror and a designer bookcase). A second bedroom, also with parquet flooring, has twin 90cm beds in red gloss and a chest of drawers. The two bedrooms share a large dressing room.
The shower-room is Japanese in style featuring bright red, chocolate and ecru. It is a very light room and has a wonderful view onto the Seudre, the neighbouring salt marshes and the main courtyard. The large shower itself is 1m20 x 1m and there are twin washbasins; separate WC.
The Little Farmhouse
(Number of persons: 2 + 2)
This single storey house of some 95 sq m is tastefully decorated and redolent of the charm of the past with its three 16th century fireplaces; it looks onto the main courtyard and the terrace.
The fully fitted English-style kitchen is next to the dining room and opens onto the main courtyard.
The dining room is furnished with antiques.
The drawing room has two sofas (one a sofa bed 1m40 wide) and looks out onto the terrace with a view of the River Seudre.
The bedroom is very large with a king-size bed (1m60), antique wardrobes and a reading and relaxation area; a cot is available.
Shower room with deluxe shower and toilet.

Location description
Sunshine:
An area that enjoys the second highest number of days of sunshine in France and an outstanding climate.
Culture:
An incomparable architectural wealth, a range of monuments and sites such as the Romanesque churches of Saintonge-Côte Sauvage where there are frequent concerts, remains of the Roman period.
Traditional oyster-farming:
The varied scenery of the Seudre marshes, oyster farms, the islands from the small, such as Aix to the large such as Ré or Oléron. Fishing villages:
Mornac, Mortagne sur Gironde, La Tremblade…
Regional products:
The celebrated Marennes-Oléron oysters, "éclades" (mussels cooked in a bed of pine needles) Pineau, seafood… Many charming local markets take place daily in the surrounding villages.
Sports:
Canoeing on the Seudre, water sports at the beaches, ports where you can hire boats and jet-skis, horse-riding, long bike rides, sailing and surfing of all kinds.
The Golf de Royan is around 6 km distant.
