Description
Known for its tiny winding cobbled streets and traditional Greek way of living, Ano Vathi overlooks the more cosmopolitan Samos Town which is in easy reach should you tire of the 'getaway from it all' atmosphere.
It is not unusual to feel as though you have slipped back in time when you see an old man leading his donkey through the village or hear birds and church bells on a still, warm afternoon. The village has a very different atmosphere from the bustling town with its vegetable market, fisherman selling their catch, designer shops, bars and tavernas.
About the house
The house which is set over two storeys has thick stone walls which make it cool in summer and easily heated in winter. It is one of the few properties in the village which has a garden. This provides a private area for sunbathing or barbequing and is planted with lemon and mandarin trees which offer welcome shade from the summer sun.
Entering the house through the courtyard, the upstairs has a comfortable lounge, modern fitted kitchen (2013) and dining area. It has an open fireplace with wood burning stove which heats the house in winter. In the summer the cross ventilation from the dual aspect shuttered windows ensures that the room doesn’t get too hot.
The downstairs offers an extremely spacious bedroom with ample wardrobe space. The room is large enough to accommodate two people in the double bed and another single person on the additional fold-up bed. Upstairs there is a sofa bed, which in conjunction with the fold-up bed, makes a very good sized double bed for two people. The sofabed and the fold-up bed can be used separately as two single beds.

Feel of a real home from home.
Hello Phil
Just a quick email to say we enjoyed very much our stay in your house in Samos. Your instructions/info were v helpful and it was very comfortable and had the feel of a real home from home.
Liked Ano Vathi a lot and the walk up and down to the new part of town kept us fit!
Best wishes and good luck with your future rentals.
Damien
Located in the best possible location for someone to explore a traditional village
Ano Vathi was one my favorite places in Samos and it was lovely to have the opportunity to stay in this little stone house for few days.
The house is located in the best possible location for someone to explore a traditional village with a well preserved local architecture.
It is tastefully decorated and has all necessary amenities to accommodate a young family of 4.
In the morning, we had our breakfast in the small courtyard out of the house, under a tree, before heading to the mountains for trekking or the picturesque beaches at the north of the island. We also loved walking at the narrow cobbled streets of the village, taking photos of the beautiful houses with the colored windows.
We could also easily walk or use our bikes from the house down to the port of Vathi. Going back uphill was not as easy though.
The house is also very close to one of the best restaurants in the island “Ourania’s place” with lovely view of the port.
We would certainly recommend this place to people that like traditional living.
Felt like home for our 7 day stay.
We very much enjoyed our stay in this little house at the top of Anno Vathy!
Tucked away in a corner plot, between narrow streets, it felt very private in the lemon tree garden area, and felt like home for our 7 day stay.
We hired a quad, which was easy to park –and fun driving up between the narrow streets – useful for carrying supplies from the supermarket down in the main port area!
The walk downhill is only 10 mins. There was an excellent tavern in the ‘square’ of Ano Vathy, which we enjoyed a couple of nights, other times we went further afield based on local recommendations.
The house had all amenities and wifi, so couldn’t ask for much more really.....
