Description
Having fallen in love with this area of France some years ago, we finally took the plunge and moved here from the UK last year.
Last year we had guests from England and Germany who all enjoyed their stay with us. In fact the reception the Gite received from them was fantastic, It looks like our efforts had been rewarded.
This year we have made improvements, some based on feedback received from our guests, these include a beautiful wood burning stove in the living area, some lovely comfortable seating on the covered terrace and last but not least, pool heating, this runs from May to September, optional at other times.
We are situated equidistant between Bordeaux and Bergerac, both have their merits but in our opinon Bordeaux is fantastic and was voted best European place to visit 2015. www.bordeaux-tourisme.com
Close to three Unesco world heritage sites, Saint Emilion, the Citadel at Blaye and Port of the Moon Bordeaux all within an hours drive, there are numerous Bastide towns (Fortified) all fairly similar in layout with a central square and arcades around the perimeter with shops, cafes and weekly markets.
With Vineyards as far as the eye can see, with no fences they're ideal for horse riding through the vines. But of course that's not the main reason they are grown. The Bordeaux wines are renowned throughout the world, we have the Romans to thank for this as it was they who introduced the vines to this region. A wine tour is a must and gives an insight into the art of the tradition of wine making, of course the best part is afterwards, the tasting..!
The Gite is situated five minutes south of the river Dordogne, you can enjoy River Cruises, Kayaking, Swimming, Photography, Bird Watching, Fishing, you could perhaps even catch a Lamproie (Lamprey) a local delicacy cooked with leeks and of course red wine, they really are delicious.
Golfers are well catered for, there are numerous courses within an hours drive, the closest being the newly opened Saint Emilion course which is a 20 minutes drive.
We hope that you will entrust us to accommodate you for your holiday in south west France and are certain you will not be disappointed.
We appreciate you taking the time to consider our Gite for your holiday.
Many thanks
Julie and David
