Description
Rowling End is situated in one of the Lake District’s most beautiful and tranquil valleys.
Rowling End is a traditional Lakeland farmhouse which can accommodate up to eight people. It was fully restored in 2009 and has been awarded a Five Star Quality in Tourism rating and a Gold Award each year since then. The house is stylish and comfortable, with a large farmhouse kitchen and open fires.
Rowling End has stunning views across the valley to Catbells and Maiden Moor. Whether you are looking to explore the high fells, lakes and valleys or simply wish to enjoy the dramatic landscape, Rowling End and the Mouse House provide the perfect starting point for your visit.
Beatrix Potter visited the area regularly. Her walks round Newlands Valley inspired her to write The Tale of Mrs Tiggywinkle. Renowned fell walker & writer Alfred Wainwright loved Newlands Valley too. He wrote: "More than 50 years have gone by since I first set eyes on Newlands and in all that time the valley seems not to have changed in any way.”

Location description
Rowling End and The Mouse House provide the perfect base for walking and mountain biking in the Lakes. It is quite possible to spend a week here walking from the house without repeating your route, which makes it entirely possible to have a holiday from your car too.
This area of the Lake District is covered in Wainwright’s book of the North Western Fells, and two of his favourite walks - The Coledale Round and The Newlands Round - are perfect to be walked from Rowling End.
The views from Catbells are worthy of a much bigger peak. Walk across the fields to Skelgill, through the farm and up onto the fell and follow the paths as you can see them from the house. For those staying at home they can plot your progress from the window.
