Scallop Shell cottage is a charming recently refurbished 3 bedroom 18th century stone cottage situated in a quiet country lane on the edge of the village of Niton, on the southern most tip of the Isle of Wight.
Retaining many of its original features the cottage is beautifully furnished and decorated throughout to a high standard. Traditional and contemporary styles combine to offer high quality living for up to 6 people. It is the perfect blend of luxury with family practicality.
Every care has been taken to ensure that children have been catered for with more than just a cot and a highchair being provided. We provide built in stairgates, bed guards, digital monitor, food blender and child friendly crockery and cutlery (see For Kids).
Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the cottage has a tranquil and relaxing location, with the front and back gardens commanding panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Scallop Shell Cottage is the perfect retreat for adults and children alike. Little ones will head straight for the toy boxes whilst adults will admire the wood-burner, perfect for crisp winter days or late night relaxation and the Rayburn cooker.
Inspired by the seasons and surrounding countryside the interior design and furnishings bring natures colour vibrancy inside.
Many original features remain; stripped floor boards in the living room, stone flags in the kitchen, a cast-iron hearth in the green bedroom and stairs that date back to 1850!
The house provides all the modern conveniences; a flat screen TV, iPOD docking system, DVD player & CD player/radio, washer/dryer, dishwasher, combination microwave with convection oven, fridge freezer, hairdryers, etc.
Ground Floor:
The front door opens into a very Spacious Hall where you can hang coats and hats and store away shoes, wellies, etc;
The stylish Dining Room seats 6-8 with French doors opening into the back garden;
The Living Room is light, bright and spacious with a wood burning stove. A sunny window seat looks out down the front garden;
The fully equipped open plan Kitchen Breakfast Room with Rayburn cooker has French doors leading out into the back garden.
Upstairs:
Fairly steep stairs lead up to 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin) and a modern family bathroom.
The Master bedroom is bright and airy. From the king sized bed you have 180 degree views of the surrounding countryside;
The Green Bedroom has a double bed and original fireplace. Again this room has magnificent view of the Downs;
The Blue Bedroom is a cosy twin looking out over the back garden and the fields beyond;
The Bathroom has a bath, separate built in shower, sink and WC. The non slip floor is ideal for little ones.
Outside:
The secluded front and rear gardens both have sunny patio areas and are ideal for taking time out in. Private off street parking for 2 to 3 cars. For kids there is an 8ft trampoline with enclosure plus swing, slide and baby swing plus numerous outdoor toys whilst for adults there is a selection of garden furniture and a BBQ. A fenced-off pond in the front garden is a haven for wildlife.

Location description
Situated in the quiet village of Niton on the southern tip of the Isle of Wight Scallop Shell Cottage is a rural idyle.
Surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty there are bridal pathways at the end of the garden.
The seaside town of Ventnor is only 10 minutes drive from the cottage or drive along the coast 20 minutes to the stunning beach of Compton Bay.
For adventure Blackgang Chine Adventure Park is just 5 minutes drive from the cottage. The fun packed park is designed to appeal to the child in all of us! Further afield is Robin Hill Countryside Adventure Park.
Several beautiful coves (Steephill Cove, Castle Haven) and beaches (Ventnor, Shanklin, Compton) are just a short distance from the cottage.
Travelling 4 miles east takes you to the delightful Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor, well known for its mild climate, sandy beaches and Botanic Gardens.
15 minutes north of Niton is Godshill, a picturesque village renowned for its thatched cottages.
Within easy reach of Niton is Carisbrooke Castle, where Charles I was held prisoner before his execution or a little further on in Cowes is Osborne House, Queen Victoria's favourite country retreat. For more historical houses visit Appuldurcombe House or Arreton Manor.
Ultimately this is the Isle of Wight - much to do and nothing is too far away.

Getting to the Isle of Wight
Wightlink and Red Funnel Isle of Wight Ferries operate a round-the-clock service between the English mainland and the Isle of Wight. The service is offered every day of the year on three routes across the Solent.
Lymington to Yarmouth - Wightlink (30 minutes) - 0871 3761000

Southhampton to East Cowes - Red Funnel (55 minutes) - 0844 8449988
All routes will be busy on a Saturday, so it is important to book in advance and allow plenty of time to catch your ferry. Go straight to the Wightlink site or the Red Funnel Line websites to select your chosen route and book online. Remember to check for Special Offers on these sites as they often offer substantial discounts.
Scallop Shell Cottage is about 30 minutes drive from any of the ferry ports.
