    Description

    Monkstone Cottage has been sympathetically converted from an old farm building which was originally a stable, piggery and cart shed. It is detached from the owners16th century farmhouse and has beautiful views up to Brentor Church on Dartmoor to the South. To the North you look at open countryside for as far as you can see.

    The property has ample parking near the door and easy access for those who are not so able. There is an enclosed garden and patio area with garden furniture, sun loungers and a barbecue provided. Beyond the garden is a paddock area where dogs can be exercised.

    Inside the cottage the spacious lounge/diner is open to the rafters and gets bathed in sunshine throughout much of the day. For long winter evenings in snuggle up on the sofa in front of the log fire. A separate kitchen has everything you would expect including a dishwasher.

    The luxury bathroom has a deep roll top bath with a rain type shower over it, perfect for a long soak after a day out walking on the moor. Being well away from any traffic noise guarantees a peaceful nights sleep and this is also helped by the pocket sprung double bed in the romanticly styled bedroom.
    An environmently friendly wood pellet heating and hot water system insures Monkstone Cottage is a comfortable all year round choice of accommodation.

    To help you get into the holiday mood a Devon cream tea will be ready on your arrival and whenever possible the owners will be on hand to give advice on places to visit and help with anything to ensure you have the perfect holiday.

    Location description

    Monkstone is situated in West Devon on the edge of Dartmoor, five minutes drive from the picturesque market town of Tavistock with its many independent shops and cafes as well as a bustling market, voted best market town in England . A fifteen minute stroll from the property takes you to the top of Brentor on Dartmoor with its 12th century church still in use and with amazing paroramic views in all directions. We are only two miles from the National Trust Lydford Gorge and close to several other National Trust properties. The Eden Project and Heligan Gardens are approximately one hour drive away.

    Other activities

    Although walking on Dartmoor is our main attraction both the North and South coasts of Devon and Cornwall are within easy reach. Gliding Club taking visitors for flights over Brentor.

    Tourist attractions

    National Trust Lydford Gorge, Buckland Abbey, Cotehele, Castle Drogo and other National Trust properties are all nearby. Morwellham Quay mining heritage centre. Launceston Steam Railway. Miniture Pony Centre. Tavistock Tree Surfers. We are on the route 27 cycle trail and have many off road cycle trails nearby.

    Directions

    From M5 Exeter take A30 West Okehampton. Bypass Okehampton and take next slip road at Sourton onto A386 towards Tavistock. After approx 5 miles take turning right opposit the Dartmoor Inn and go through Lydford. Pass both entrances to Lydford Gorge and continue up hill. Road levals out then climbs again. Lane to Monkstone is at the top of hill on the right just before Brentor church carpark. Go to end of lane
