Les Pourciaux Cottage is a modern self contained property, adjoining the main house but with its own private entrance. Parking for cars or bikes is available and there is dedicated outside garden space, including a picnic table up a little path in an elevated position with views over the bay.
The property is set in an idyllic rural setting, offering total peace and quiet. Guests can roam freely around the property and the stunning Longis Beach is only a stone's throw from the front door. Being approx 1.5 miles from the nearest shop, many guests walk everywhere as it is refreshing to be able to do so - but it is easy to hire bikes (pedal or motorised) or cars, and taxis are also available.
The accommodation is laid out over two floors with the entrance hall and a bedroom with an en suite shower room on the ground floor. Up a spiral staircase is the open plan living room with kitchen offering lovely views of the Bay and Fort Raz, a second bedroom and a bathroom with a freestanding bath.
There is a bbq and outdoor seating area for al fresco dining, a hammock, a couple of sun loungers in the garden. There are also lots of beach toys available (boogie boards, buckets and spades, etc).
Across the bay about 10 minutes walk is the Old Barn bar and restaurant, currently only open during the daytimes for lunch but sometimes open for early evening dinner.

Location description
Les Pourciaux Cottage is in an idyllic location overlooking the stunning Longis Bay and Fort Raz. The town of St Anne is approximately 1.5 miles away and other beaches are also in walking distance from the cottage. Alderney has stunning white sandy beaches to rival the caribbean and swimming is safe for children.
Other activities
The island is a paradise for those who love the outdoors and peace and quiet. There are lots of clubs on the island (eg tennis, golf, shooting, etc) and lots of events are organised in the summer months by the Alderney Wildlife Trust. So you can be as lazy or as busy as you fancy.
Local events
Alderney week is the main event of the year which happens the first week of August - the population doubles at this time of year - for some a reason to come and join the party, for others a reason to stay away for that particular week! But it is a fun week targeted mostly at families and is hugely popular. The island buzzes with excitement and friends from all over the world enjoy reunions - it is THE one time when old friends catch up again. By most peoples standards although it is a busy week for Alderney, the island never feels overcrowded and it is easy to find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the views. There are several other very popular events... Alderney Literary Festival (March), Alderney Performing Arts Festival (May), Alderney Wildlife Week (May), Mens and Ladies Golf Competitions (June), Food and Drink Festival (July), Half-Marathon (August), Motor Sprint and Hill Climb (Sept), Alderney Angling Festival (Oct/Nov), and others.
Tourist attractions
The main attraction is getting away from it all and experiencing a laid-back lifestyle with a vibrant community and very friendly locals. The beaches are beautiful, with soft white sands, safe for bathing and unspoiled with large tidal movements so the vistas are constantly changing. For those who are interested in world war history, the island is littered with bunkers and fortifications. The island is the only place in the UK to be evacuated during world War II and the museum in St Anne gives lots of information on this dark part of the island's history. Alderney has a designated Ramsar site (wetland of international importance) on the west of the island encompassing the tiny, once inhabited island of Burhou. The new Alderney Bird Observatory, established as recently as 2016, has experienced unprecedented levels of rare species passing through and visitors can take part in bird-ringing. The Visit Alderney website has much more information on things to do and see.
Directions
Les Pourciaux Cottage is on a small island most easily accessed flying direct with Aurigny from Southampton on the south coast of the UK. It is possible but not usually practical to bring a vehicle to the island as there is only a cargo boat from the UK and a small passenger ferry from Guernsey during the main summer months of June-Sept. Cars, mopeds and bicycles are available for rent on the island.
