    Description

    The Little Barn is an attractive timber clad cottage nestled amongst farmland in the south west Isle of Wight, It is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 1.4m from Shorwell village.

    The Little Barn (Wightbarn) sits in the grounds of our house, a traditional 18th Century sandstone, thatched building. There are approximately 2 acres of private land, with areas of landscaped garden, field (wild flower meadow in the summer months), natural wetland area and lake, all surrounded by two small streams. The deck and terrace area around the cottage have outdoor furniture and a brick built BBQ.

    Converted in 2010 the holiday accommodation provides a comfortable, well equipped 'home-from-home' sleeping between 2 and 4 people (5 possible by arrangement). It is ideal for families, couples or a small group of friends (sorry no pets).

    The main living areas and the large deck focus on the south east aspect, looking away from The Main Barn towards St Catherine’s Down, giving a greater sense of privacy.

    The secluded location also benefits from a lack of light pollution, making night skies beautifully clear and great for star gazing. The quiet location makes it ideal for wildlife sightings and guests have seen buzzards, sparrow hawk, kestrels, barn owls, woodpeckers, nuthatches, a cormorant, red squirrels, bats, foxes and much more.

    The Island has over 300 walks, suiting all ages and abilities, with over 500 miles of well-maintained footpaths. You don’t have to go far to enjoy one such walk, as the Shepherds Trail runs along Dungewood Lane! There are also many car-free cycle routes close by and fantastic beaches a mere 10 minute drive away. You can surf, bodyboard, paraglide, kite-surf, sail and fossil hunt - or just stick to a swim and sunbathing!

    Whilst feeling remote, the cottage is within easy reach of all the Islands' main attractions allowing you to visit historic castles, manor houses, animal sanctuaries. You can go fishing or sailing, play golf or visit local produce suppliers and indulge your senses at the lavender and garlic farms.

    Directions

    There are three ports on the Island and you can travel with either Wightlink or Red Funnel from Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington. There is no public transport to The Little Barn so you will need a car or be seasoned cyclists.
    You can hire cars on the Island from Enterprise. You can hire bikes from Wight Cycle Hire.

    I have ticked both private and shared garden because you share the 2 acre site with us the owners. The cottage deck faces away from our house and we try to allow our guests maximum privacy whilst they stay by keeping away from these areas. We feel you should have the freedom to roam anywhere in the cultivated and wild areas, but we may be around as the grounds have to be maintained.

    Some form of transport is required to get to the cottage as the nearest bus stop is 1 mile away in Shorwell and the bus service is minimal! However seasoned cyclists would easily get to the cottage from any of the ferry ports and we can let you use a shed for storage. Details of car and bike hire can be provided on request.

    The main bedroom has a radio, hairdryer, tv and en-suite facilities.
    Internet access is via WIFI and can be accessed throughout the cottage but signal strength will vary from room to room.

    Deposit/Booking Notes

    • We have a minimum stay of 2 nights.
    • Our rates vary throughout the year and can be found on our wightbarn site or by contacting us.
    • Full payment must be received no later than 4 weeks before arrival. For bookings made within 4 weeks of arrival, full payment must accompany your booking form.
    • Deposits are non-refundable & required within 7 days to guarantee booking.
    • We can only accept cheques (payable to Mr & Mrs R Perkes) or bank transfers. Sorry no credit cards.
    • We recommend that you consider taking out travel insurance, as refunds cannot be given for cancellations, unless we manage to re-book.
    • Our changeover day for week long bookings is Friday to Friday.
    • Arrival from 2.30pm onwards. Please vacate by 10am.
    • No smoking is permitted inside The Little Barn.
    • We do not accept pets.
    • The prices shown include bed linen, towels, t-towels, oven gloves, basic cleaning materials, electricity and water and an end of stay clean, however if the property is left in a particularly poor state, an Excess Cleaning Charge may be applied.
    • The property is rented as a holiday let and the hirer shall use it solely for holiday purposes and not sub-let the property.
