Description
Available for weekend and midweek breaks, as well as full weeks, at any time of year.
Our visitors' book says it all! Guests are sorry to leave, and hoping to return, so we think we're doing something right - although we don't stop looking for ways to improve!
The Byre is one of three luxury cottages in a recent high quality conversion of a magnificent Victorian stone barn set in the grounds of The Green, Ravenstonedale, once a farm. All the cottages have recent inspections from Visit Britain, with 5 star ratings.
The Byre is on two levels, with two ensuite bedrooms on the ground floor and the living accommodation above, making the very best use of the exposed beams and features of the original barn. The height of the barn allows for a timber gallery in The Byre, above the dining area and overlooking the lounge, with seating and a games table. There's plenty of space in the lounge for four adults to relax, with two comfortable sofas, and an antique settle where you can sit and look out through the french doors and maybe spot a Red Squirrel on one of our feeders. The french doors open onto your own balcony, where there's a couple of chairs and you can smoke if you wish, and stone steps lead down to the ground. You'll probably find the underfloor heating keeps you warm enough, but there's also a log burning stove set into a feature stone fireplace built by a local craftsman.
The lounge is fully equipped, and naturally there's WiFi internet access so if you bring your laptop you can check out the local weather, plan your day and send "wish you were here" emails to friends and family.
Cooking shouldn't be a chore in the modern fitted kitchen with separate double oven and halogen hob, food processor, large fridge/freezer and everything you'd expect, including a dishwasher so you don't have to wash up on holiday.
If you prefer to eat out, just a mile away in the village are two pub/restaurants including the winner of the AA UK Pub of the Year Award for 2012, with more choice slightly further afield.
Whether you want walking, mountain biking, fishing, sightseeing, photography or wildlife there's plenty of scope in the immediate area, and we can help with arranging horse riding and mountain bike hire locally. The village has a tennis court and golf course, with another golf course in Kirkby Stephen. And if you feel like simply relaxing, you'll enjoy the facilities and views from our grounds, and your own garden area with table and chairs.
Wainwright's book on the Howgill Fells will help you with local exploring and The Yorkshire Dales and The Lake District are both within easy reach.
Well trained dogs are welcome in all our cottages, and all have their own enclosed area.
And if you like to holiday (or take a short break) as a group, then we can link The Byre and The Haystore to provide real comfort for eight or, or by renting all three cottages groups of up to 14 can be accommodated.
We hope to be able to welcome you to Green Barn Cottages, and it's important to us that you enjoy your stay in this lovely area!
