    Description

    The house is in the village of Polopos in beautiful wild hilly countryside. Polopos is a village in the Alpujarra region of Andalucia, southern Spain, south from Granada. The Alpujarras are the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Polopos is set on 788m high hills about 6 miles from the sea on a good winding road, and about 3 or 4 miles away as the crow flies. It is about 20 mins drive to the coast, which here is almost completely undeveloped. There are no golf courses, discos, theme pubs etc. As it is so high up there are spectacular sea views (on some exceptionally clear days in Winter you can see the African coast), and there are deep green valleys, massive hills, olive and almond trees, orange trees, vines and goats. You can walk over the hills down to the sea in about one and a half hours. It is perfect for walking in all seasons except high Summer.

    Polopos is a very traditional farming village. Farmers ride out of the village on horses and mules to work the land. Goats sometimes come through the streets. It is not at all an artificial or sophisticated tourist village, though as it was recently on Dutch TV some Dutch people have moved there and opened a restaurant. Although close to the sea it is right off the beaten track.
    To the north are the pretty villages of the higher Alpujarras, the mountains, and Granada and the Alhambra, an hour and a half's drive away.
    The house is a restored traditional cottage-style house. with wooden beamed ceilings and terracotta and ceramic tiled floors. It has been restored with many new local Andalucian ceramic wall tiles, in traditional styles in the kitchen and bathroom.

    It has three rooms and a shower room downstairs, and and two rooms upstairs one of which opens onto a terrace about 12 feet square with a bamboo sunscreen, which has a panoramic view of the hills and the sea and is not overlooked. There are two bedrooms, a double and a single. It has all basic amenities : electricity, hot and cold water, shower, fridge and freezer, electric and butane gas heaters and a wood-burning stove. There is a sofa and comfortable cane chairs. There is no TV or washing machine. There is limited wifi access, (3G/4G signal in part of the house). There is an atmosphere of peace and quiet. The thick walls keep the house cool on hot sunny days.

    This is an area of outstanding natural beauty with many wonderful walks, which you can see on the walking world site, walks 4692 to 4695.
    Green valleys, huge sea views, brilliant botany.

    Directions

    The easiest way to get there is to get a (budget) flight to Malaga, and then get a hire car from Malaga Car Hire.
    Alternatively one can get a coach from Malaga to La Mamola on the coast and then get the village taxi up to Polopos.
