Description
Situated among the rolling hills of this World Heritage site on the Jurassic Coast and nestling under 'Golden Cap' is Glenacres, almost literally on the beach. It is a large luxurious family beach holiday home with a small outside solar heated, saline swimming pool. It has extensive gardens (approx. 3 acres) including a rose garden, a vegetable garden (for all to enjoy), a walled garden and bluebell woodland which is rare in this location and comes as a pleasant surprise when you arrive at the property. It is a picture-perfect setting in an amazing location.
The house itself is furnished with carefully accrued pieces with the emphasis on comfort and relaxation. The bedrooms are charming and warm with luxurious beds and beautiful linens which give great nights sleeps with blackout shutters keeping out the morning light, or leaving them open listening to the calm or roar of the sea.
The bespoke kitchen is equipped with all that a cook would need. It is the focal place where families can gather and in summer evenings meals can be taken alfresco either in the formal or walled garden. The 3 Reception rooms, each with a different theme, one with an open fire with sofas and dining table, the second with a baby grand piano, tv and sofas and the third, again with sofas, toys, books, games, tv and football table. Each large and adjoining and looking out to the pool, garden and sea. The Conservatory overlooks the pool garden with small drinks fridge and tea and coffee facilities. It is cosy and warm on a winter's day and can be opened up on a warm day to let a cool breeze in (comes with fly screens). All in all, the house can lend itself to quiet and reflective times or to celebrations. The choice is yours......

Location description
We are 100 metres walk from the beach at Seatown. Seatown is a steeply shelving pebble beach backed by soft-rocked cliffs. It is now only a tiny hamlet - a few cottages, a farm and a pub. So Seatown, West Dorset. Small one-time fishing Village with a pub just where you want it - On the Beach.
We are situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are served by more than 20 miles of footpaths and bridle ways, all rich in wildlife. You can fossil hunt along the beach or throw in a line and fish for mackerel. There have even been sightings of dolphins passing through. Nestled under "Golden Cap", it is worth a walk to its summit as it gives an unrivalled view across Lyme Bay and towards the Isle of Portland with the walk beginning at Glenacres, the South West Coastal Path. Once down you can sit back with a drink and just enjoy the view from the garden or take a stroll to the Anchor. It is glorious!
Bridport, 4 miles to the east is known for its art and antiques quarter with twice weekly local produce and antique markets; Wednesday & Saturdays. It has a cinema, art venue and 2 theatres. West Bay is within Bridport's Town boundary and is a busy harbour 'village' with beach, characteristic kiosks, fishing boats, pubs & restaurants and 8 miles to the west is the pretty historic resort of Lyme Regis. It is a sleepy fishing village that has very successfully turned its hand to tourism.
This coastline has also been the star of many a film and TV drama which is no surprise considering it's unspoilt countryside and dramatic coastline offering a beautiful setting to really bring a script alive. ITV1's drama 'Broadchurch' used West Bay as it's backdrop and Jane Austin's classic love story 'Persuasion' was filmed in Lyme Regis as was John Fowle's 1980 film adaption of his classic novel 'The French Lieutenant's Woman' with a cloaked Meryl Streep famously standing on the Cobb Harbour in Lyme Regis.
There is a huge foodie culture in West Dorset and all reachable from Glenacres. It is a little more modern than your average cream tea. There are many fabulous restaurants and pubs. The locals are spoilt for choice, for example, there is 'The Wild Garlic Restaurant', Beaminster, 'The Hive Beach Cafe', Burton Bradstock, 'Hix Oyster & Fish House', Cobb Road, Lyme Regis and not forgetting the famous River Cottage Canteen, Axminster - Hugh Fearnleigh Whittingstall's canteen is all about great local food. There are also the 'Riverside', West Bay, the 'George Inn', Chideock, 'The Bull Hotel', Bridport and our local, 'The Anchor Inn', Seatown.
Glenacres is catered for by a small seasonal local shop across the road, open from April to October, at the Caravan Park. The shop sells anything from bread, milk to fishing tackle, pool inflatables and daily newspapers. There is a postbox located at the front of the shop as well as 2 public phone boxes.
Driving back through Duck Lane into Chideock and turn right, there is a small local shop. This is ideal in the winter months when the Caravan shop is closed, although the stock is limited.
There are two major supermarkets in Bridport - Morrisons and Waitrose, as well as many small independent stores such as Framptons Family Butcher & Delicatessen situated under the clock tower open 8 to 5 Mon. to Sat., Leakers, an artisan bakery which offer a next day delivery service. There is also a wonderful farm shop in Morcombelake, west of Chideock, Felicity's Farm Shop, open 8 to 6 Mon. to Sat. & 10 to 4 Sun. stocking good quality locally sourced produce.
Other activities
Beachcombing, bird watching, walking, scenic drives, Bay fishing, golf, swimming, fishing, sailing, hiking - Glenacres marks the start of the "South West Coastal Path Walk".
The beach itself is a great place for fishermen and fossil hunters and is catered to the public by the newly renovated "Anchor Inn", originally a smugglers haunt. All this complements to the sublime positioning of our beach house.
Local events
There is a market in Bridport every Wednesday and Saturday mornings selling fresh produce and bric-a-brac.
Tourist attractions
A folder is provided with all tourist attractions and seasonal events, and there is a Tourist Office in Bridport for any other events not noted at the time.
Directions
The nearest airport is at Exeter or Bournemouth. Both are forty to fifty minutes drive away in opposite directions. Main line rail stations are to be found at the market town of Axminster, 20 minutes drive to the west and Dorchester, the County Town, 40 minutes drive to the east. Car hire is recommended. There is a local bus service stopping at Chideock 1 km walk from Glenacres servicing the A35 and surrounding villages.
