Location description
Brushfield is in an ideal location in the heart of the White Peak - the limestone area of the Peak National Park.
The towns of Buxton and Bakewell are only about ten minutes drive away and each offers excellent facilities with their own unique atmosphere.
There are many excellent picturesque walks from the doorstep. Monsal Dale, with its famous trail, Millers Dale and High Dale are only a short walk away. Walkers can enjoy spectacular views and the opportunity to observe an abundance of wild flowers, animals and bird life.
Middle Farm Holiday Cottages provides a good all year round base for a full range of activities including; rock climbing, caving, horse riding, gliding, fishing, mountain biking, golf and swimming.
Ashford in the Water, just down the road from Brushfield, is a delightful traditional Derbyshire village with all the basic amenities including post office, village store / delicatessen, hotel, restaurant and public house. Enjoy a stroll by the river and across the Sheepwash bridge and be sure to visit the beautiful Church which dates back hundreds of years.
Bakewell, capital of the Peak District is only a few miles away. Agriculture is still the basic activity and the Monday cattle market is one of the largest in the country. It is an attractive market town, so pop in for lunch, take a walk by the river, visit the Bakewell Pudding shop or do a little shopping, its well worth a visit!
The Spa town of Buxton with its imposing architecture, beautiful Opera House and Pavilion Gardens is a 15 minute drive away.
Visit the pretty village of Eyam, famous for the plague brought from London in 1665 in a consignment of clothes.
Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are within easy reach offering different insights into the life of a bygone age.
Chatsworth House, owned by the Duke of Devonshire, is steeped in history and full of beautiful works of art. The parks and gardens have been enhanced by famous landscape gardeners such as Capability Brown and Joseph Paxton.
Haddon Hall dating back to the early 1300s is the finest medieval house in the country.
Hardwick Hall now owned by the National Trust has been left largely untouched and is a classic example of an Elizabethan manor house.
Varied Walking: Trails, Dales and Hills
Across the White Peak limestone plateau several disused railway lines have been converted to recreational use for walking and cycling. A walk along the nearby Monsal trail, the former Midland Railway trackbed reveals bridges and other constructional feats that made this line so famous.
The local area is famous for its Dales, offering delightful walks. Dovedale, Mosal Dale and Lathkill Dale are among the few Peak landscapes which have been left entirely untouched by man. On the steep rocky faces of their sides are found some of the rarest and most beautiful plants and insects in the Park.
Much of the nearby delightfully wooded Lathkill Dale is a nature reserve reflecting its ecological value.
Enjoy the wild moors and rocky escarpments of the millstone grit moors of the Dark Peak. Dramatic landscapes and edges: Bleaklow, Blackhill and Kinder Scout. Stanage, Baslow and Frogatt Edge.
Whether you want to simply walk from the cottage or travel further afield there is an abundance of varied and beautiful countryside waiting for you to explore and a host of interesting places to visit.

Directions
Directions are as follows: from Bakewell follow the A6 in a northwesterly direction towards Buxton. After two miles you bypass Ashford in the Water on the right, the road follows the course of the river for about another two miles and then starts to climb its way uphill through a wooded dale. Just about a mile before a section of dual carriageway begins you will see the signpost for Brushfield on your right. Take this single-track road up the hillside and negotiate the rising hairpin bend. After mile you come to a Y junction. Bear left at this point, drive between the grit-stone gateposts and turn immediately right. Albertine Barn is the two storey converted barn on the left. From Buxton follow the A6 in a southeasterly direction for about 5 miles. A section of dual carriageway bypasses the village of Taddington on your right. The turn off for Brushfield is signposted on the left about mile after the end of the dual carriageway section. (Continue as above).

Comfortable convenient clean and welcoming
We stayed with family and friends all of whom were delighted with the Barn, enjoying the welcoming atmosphere. The capacious lounge and kitchen enabled us all to gather and chat with ease while the individual rooms provided privacy as appropriate.
Celebration Weekend
Wonderful place for a large family gathering. The Barn was immaculate, well thought out and we had everything we needed for our stay. The scenery was stunning, and we were able to go on a couple of long walks. THE MANNERS pub in Bakewell comfortably seated all twelve of us for lunch on the Saturday (Best to Pre-Book) food was delicious and hot! Cromford Canal, (not too far away) is a nice trip to go on.... narrow Boat rides on certain days, lovely. We ended our visit with a trip to Chatsworth which is beautiful. Would love to come again.
