Description
Situated in the heart of the "lot" between Cahors & Sarlat, in a pretty medieval village, the chateau dates from 965 ad with transformations in the 13th,14th 16th and 17th centuries, major renovations have been undertaken since 2005 with most of the 1200sqm chateau now habitable.
4 bedrooms with en-suite in medieval chateau recently renovated. Pool, sauna, roman bath.
History of the Chateau
The Lordship of Saint Chamarand belonged to Aymeric and Geraud de Gourdon from 961. Gourdon retained the stronghold until 1311, when financial ruin forced him to sell the property to Raymond Auriole. The wedding of Aygline Auriole with Pierre Vassal passed the lordship to this family. In 1388, the property was sold to Guy Peyronnencq, this family held it until the mid-fifteenth century, the latest generations no longer live in St Chamarand.
In 1632 Louis XIII, King of France, had lunch at the castle of Roussillon and then slept in the castle of St Chamarand, it was when he came to Toulouse punish the constable of Montmorency.
In 1738 Louise Peyronnencq, heir to the lineage of Calvimont wife Jean, Baron de Saint Martial. During the Revolution, their son Jean Auguste Armand emigrated, which resulted in the seizure of the property. After the division of the house, the chateau experienced different owners, then a gradual abandonment to ruin.
Some remains still existed within these walls, one topped with a round arch door, a corbelled turret, painted ceilings of the 17th century, and a beautiful Renaissance window.
In poor condition, the current owner, Mr. Wood has done a wonderful job restoring the house.
