Description
Les Glycines is a small charming town house in the centre of pretty Huelgoat, Brittany. Your hosts, Julie and Paolo Santoro, were recently told by guests not to change a thing, that 'the welcome had been perfect' and that 'it was better than most hotels we have stayed in'. We have three en-suite bedrooms, providing a cosy base for walkers exploring the beautiful forests of the Parc Naturel Regional d'Armorique.
The White and Cream Rooms, both doubles, are located on the first floor of the house. An additional bed can be installed in the Cream Room if needed. The Twin Room has two single beds and is on the ground floor, with just two steps from the road to the house entrance, offering easier accessibility for those requiring it.
All rooms have en-suite bathrooms (shower, wash-basin, WC), plenty of storage, central heating and double-glazing. Each room has a TV, DVD (film library available) and alarm clock (if needed!). Fans are provided in the summer.
The Breakfast room is on the ground floor and can be used at any time to relax with a book or browse through the local information available. Guests may help themselves to tea and coffee at any time with trays to take it to their room if preferred.
Guests have their own private entrance to the house.
We can provide dry cover for bikes and have maps and walking itineraries to hand.
When planning your trip, we are very happy to help you; we have a wealth of local information and are in regular contact with the tourist offices to keep it updated.

Location description
Situated in the Parc Naturel Regional d'Armorique in the heart of the Monts D'Arrree, Huelgoat nestles in an area of outstanding beauty. The name "Huelgoat" is formed of two Breton words: "huel" which means "high" and "koat" which means "forest". The town sits on the edge of a 600 hectare forest offering many possibilities for leisurely strolls or a longer hike to discover the many sites associated with myth and legend, such as La Grotte d'Artus, La Roche Tremblante, Le Gouffre, Le Camp D'Artus and Le Menage de la Vierge. The town also surrounds a large lake which flows into the Riviere d'Argent over huge granite boulders (a feature of this area). The lake is the home of a variety of wildlife and birds and fishing is permitted for carp, pike, perch and tench. Fishing licences available locally.
Huelgoat is also an ideal base from which to explore the dramatic and rugged coastline of north-west Finistere, visiting Saint Pol de Leon, Ile de Brehat and Meneham beach. Nearby is the picturesque medieval town of Morlaix, with its imposing 19th century viaduct, beautiful houses, jacobean churches and lively traditional market on Saturdays. We are also within striking distance of the sandy beaches of western and southern Finistere, the spectacular Crozon peninsula, beautiful Quimper and a host of pretty villages boasting ancient churches and standing stones.
Other activities
In Huegoat, visit the Arboretum du Poerop, le Jardin de l'Argoat, the old silver lead mines and the mines canal (very pretty walk along the canal, through the forest to the abandoned mine).
In nearby Carhaix (20 minutes by car), there are more shops and restaurants, ten-pin bowling, karting, an indoor swimming pool and an excellent adventure/assault course (Adrenaline Carhaix), offering all levels for all ages.
Local events
All through the year (but particularly in July and August) there are many small local festivals: Fest Deiz (daytime festivals) and Fest Noz (evening festivals) in Huelgoat and the surrounding villages. These festivals, as a rule, can include a small market, performance art, live music, dancing, petanque and other local games and barbecues.
Tourist attractions
Huelgoat's stunning location, beautiful lake, rivers, forest and legendary sites are all an enticement for visitors.
