Description
Westburn Cottage is a 17th century Grade II listed barn conversion which retains the charm & history of the building but also comes with all the modern fixtures and fittings.
The building has a traditional Dales stone exterior. Inside, the lounge also has traditional features including wooden beams and a multi-fuel stove, burning either logs or coal. (N.B - Unlike many other holiday lets all the fuel for the stove is provided free of charge). Along with a TV there are plenty of DVDs, cards, board games, and lots of reading material.
The kitchen is fully-fitted with a double oven, an induction hob, a dishwasher, a fridge-freezer, and microwave along with all the cooking utensils you will need.
The bedroom has a superking size bed with a memory foam mattress. There's also a vanity basin & mirror.
The bathroom has a rainfall shower. There is also a pull-chord fan heater & underfloor heating.
In the lobby there is also a washing machine so that if your clothes get wet and/or muddy you can clean them up.
The cottage is always cleaned after every changeover. Bed linen, hand towels, 2 bath towels & 2 tea towels are all provided free of charge.

Location description
The cottage is set in the village of Newbiggin. It's a non-drive through village so is very peaceful. The locals are also very friendly.
The cottage is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park which means the countryside is right on your doorstep. The scenery is simply stunning with lush fields, dry-stone walls, woodland, scar fells, ancient moorland & picturesque waterfalls.
If walking is your passion, there are hundreds of public footpaths to follow. 400 yards from the cottage is the Street Head Inn which serves great food & local beers. The George in nearby Thoralby is also a great pub.
Other activities
There are lots of options for cyclists - both on & off-road cycling. The Tour De France (Yorkshire leg) in 2014 goes right through the area & passed by the cottage itself.

Directions
From the A1 - take the A684 turn-off to Bedale. Follow this road passing through Leyburn and West Witton, before turning left shortly after Swinithwaite onto the B6160 (signposted Kettlewell & Skipton). About a mile after West Burton turn left up into Newbiggin and drive through it - past a phone box. Westburn is the first end-terraced cottage on the right.
From the M6 - take the A684 or A65 (followed by the B6255) to Hawes. Follow the road to Aysgarth where you take the turn to Thoralby. Drive through Thoralby, crossing a small bridge before coming to a crossroads. Go straight over and up into Newbiggin.

The usual stay is 7 or 14 nights, but we also accept bookings for 3, 4 & 5 nights. Upon booking there is an additional deposit of 100. Then 4-5 weeks before your stay you'll receive an e-mail reminder about the balance. Payment is either via Paypal or cheque.
