    Description

    The apartment has 2 bedrooms, one is ensuite with a walk in rainmaker shower, the other bedroom is served by the family bathroom which is large and has a bath,bidet and shower. Both bedrooms can be made up with kingsize beds or with twin beds depending on your needs. The floors in the bedrooms are wood and there are sliding doors from both bedrooms onto a narrow balcony. Both bedrooms are air conditioned with remote controls.

    There is a large kitchen, which is fully equipped with 2 ovens, fridge freezer, ceramic hob, washer/drier, dishwasher, coffee maker,nespresso, kettle, toaster etc. There are stone work tops and marble tiles.

    The lounge has 2 leather sofas and also a large dining table that seats 8 people. There is a flat screen TV, a DVD player,a Video player(now retro!!) and a CD player. There is MEO cable TV with netflix and unlimited wifi included in rental rate. The lounge also has marble tiles .We have a selection of books, games, DVDs and Videos. There is also a remote controlled air conditioning unit which doubles as a heater in winter along with an electric radiator for those colder winter evenings.

    Off the lounge at the front sliding doors lead to a patio where you can relax with a drink.

    Doors lead from the kitchen and lounge to an inner courtyard which has a table and chairs and a gas BBQ perfect for an evening in, or a cool place to sit at lunchtime.

    The vestibule has a video controlled entry system and beach toys, umbrellas and sun loungers are also stored here.

    The gardens are nicely landscaped and the large pool which is unheated was re tiled last year. It is surrounded by patio and deck areas for sunbathing and there is also a shallow pool perfect for small children.There is no life guard so vigilance is needed when small children are using it.

    Location description

    From the apartment you can walk to the Centre of Tavira in 10 mins along the river Gilao.Tavira town has many shops, restaurants and bars to choose from. There is a daily market selling fresh friut, vegetables, meat and fish. There are several supermarkets in the town including Lidl and Aldi. There are restaurants for all tastes and budgets. There is a mini train which gives a tour of the town and can help to get your bearings-it departs from the riverside near the roman bridge.To get a 360 degree view of Tavira you can visit the camera obscura which is located in a disused water tower in the centre of the town-not to be missed it gives a real time view of the town.

    The nearest beach is the Ila de Tavira-you can walk from the apartment to the riverside boat stop in 15 mins and there take the ferry to the beach.The bus station which is a 5 min walk from the apartment runs a bus to Quatro Aguas(QA) where you can also catch the ferry. If you have a car you can drive and there is plenty of parking at QA or you could drive to Pedras del Rei and take the mini train across to the beach at Barilla. There are plenty of restaurants/toilets at both beaches.

    For those interested in history there is plenty to keep you busy with a walking tour of the town to see the Roman bridge, the castle and the numerous churches.
    If you have children with you a visit to a waterpark is a must and there are several to choose from- Aqua Show, The Big One, Slide and Splash are a few examples-they are all accessed very easily via the A22 in about 30-45mins-it is also possible to take a day trip coach there from Tavira. Zoo Marine is also worth a visit with dolphin and seal shows as well as water rides and 3 swimming pools to cool off in.There is also a beautiful carousel and other fun rides.
    There are several small fishing villages close to Tavira town-about a ten minute drive away is is the lovely village of Santa Lucia-it is the center of the octopus fishing industry as seen by the heaps of earthenware pots on the quayside. There are numerous fish restaurants where you can choose from the days catch. The village of Cabanas has a new promenade and a craft fair in August which is worth a visit.

    Further afield going towards Spain you can visit Vila Real San Antonio-this is a thriving town with an architecturally impressive pedestrian centre laid out like Lisbon's Baixa district. From here you can take boat trips up the Guadiana River.It is the 2nd longest river in Europe at 778km.

    The Spanish town of Ayamonte is only 10km away-it can be reached by ferry from Vila Real or via a bridge from Portugal. It has a wonderfully Spanish feel to it and there is a lovely old medieval quarter with narrow streets and cobbled plazas lined with trees, restaurants and bars. When you have finished shopping in the wonderful array of shops relax with a glass of wine and some tapas.5 mins drive from town is the Isla Canela beach popular with wind and kite surfers-it is accessed via a bridge from Ayamonte

    Other activities

    Many people come to the Eastern Algarve to bird watch as the Ria Formosa is the most important birding site in the Algarve. Covering 60km it comprises large areas of dunes and lagoons, channels and islands, saltpans, pools and river mouths. The diversity of habitat in the area means you can spot up to 50 species of birds in a morning from Greater Flamingoes to Eurasin spoonbills to Crested Coots.

    Local events

    During July/August there is free entertainment every night in the main square which is a 10 min walk from the apartment .At weekends there are also markets,and festivals such as the book fair and the crafts fair.

    Tourist attractions

    There are many churches to be explored in the town, there is a castle and several museums.The Rio Formosa can be explored by boat or you can visit the park just outside Olhao where there a is a lovely marked walk. You can take the train or bus to Faro and explore the old town and do some shopping at the Forum Algarve shopping mall. It is easy to visit water parks in the western algarve if you have a car but you can also book to go by bus. Inland Alcoutim with its lovely castle is well worth a visit and you can cool off at the beautiful river beach.You can also visit the Spanish town of Ayamonte just over the border either by car or by ferry boat from Vila Real.

    Directions

    Faro airport is 47km from Tavira-it is an easy drive via the A22 motorway and takes between 20-30 mins. If you are not hiring a car it is possible to arrange a private transfer costing approx 70euro return for 1- 4 people -ask for details. It is also possible to fly into Seville airport-from there the drive is 1 hour all via motorway-it is nice to stay a night in Seville and see the sights and if you have kids visit the fantastic Isla Magica theme park which opens from 1100-2300 in high season.

    We stayed at the apartment in June 2019 and had a wonderful first family holiday abroad with our 2 year old son, Cian. The apartment and the complex were perfect for our needs, very quiet and relaxed. Cian really enjoyed the freedom of the green areas in the complex and the kiddies pool. We managed the steps on the walk into town fine with the buggy but they are quite steep.
    Helen was great to deal with, all communication was really clear and she provides great detail about the apartment and Tavira.
    Tavira is beautiful with the great restaurants and beaches being the highlights for us.

    Had a brilliant holiday in this apartment, It was spotlessly clean & very comfortable with all modern comforts. Lovely quiet family orientated complex. Perhaps if travelling with toddlers who can't swim, keep the door locked as it is a ground floor apartment & there isn't any fence around the pool. This wasn't an issue for us as our youngest is 7 & is a competent swimmer. This is a great location to stroll down to Tavira centre. We had a lovely relaxing family holiday & would definitely recommend this apartment to a friend.

    Stayed at the apartment for the last week in September. It is absolutely lovely - very comfortable, and has every mod con you could ever need. Made lots use of the swimming pool, which was great to cool off in after a day walking around the town or at the beach.

    Helen was fantastic in the lead up to the trip, supplying us with recommendations for and directions to restaurants, things to visit and the local supermarkets. This made our lives much easier for the holiday!

    The only thing I would say is that for anyone who is mobility impaired, access to the town is difficult, as the main pedestrian access involves a lot of steps. For us that wasn't a problem - working a bit of exercise into our holiday definitely did us good!

    10/10, would recommend this apartment to anyone looking to stay in Tavira.

    We stayed in the apartment in late August. Only good things to say about it. The apartment was very comfortable and had everything you could possibly need. Just outside your door there was a large green area if sunbathing is your thing. The apartment had sun loungers for you to use. The swimming pool was perfect. And never seemed busy even though we were there in high season. It is a quiet group of apartments. The apartment is about 15 minute walk away from the city centre. There are steep steps up to the apartment but only for the last five minutes. Nothing that we couldn?t handle. Tavira itself is a charming old town. We ate in quite a few restaurants. The waiters were lovely but not in any way pushy. We ate in both the Italian and the Portuguese restaurant very close to the apartment and they were lovely. All in all we had a lovely holiday between the apartment and the town.

    The long stay winter let rate is 700/month and includes bed linen,towels,beach towels,unlimited wifi and end of stay cleaning. Utilities(gas,water and electricity) are paid separately to our manager after the meters are read before and after your stay and are charged according to the current utility rates. Cleaning and linen changes during long lets can be done by yourself or you can engage our manager to do this-prices on request.
