    Description

    Chalet Chamoissiere is a beautiful, self-catering, chalet apartment in Monetier-les-Bains, Serre Chevalier, and is only a short walk to the ski slope slopes.with a south-facing sunny terrace and small garden with views of the mountains. It will sleep 4 people comfortably. It is ideal for a family.

    The apartment has one double bedroom and a lounge/kitchen area which is fully equipped with hob, small oven, large fridge and dishwasher. There is also a washing machine, the shower-room has a vanity unit, hairdryer and shaver socket.

    The lounge area has sofa beds and dining table and there are sliding doors to the terrace which has a table and chairs for summer dining.
    There is a ski locker & boot storage just off the lobby in a locked ski room.

    A communal swimming pool, sauna and steam room complete the facilities, and each apartment has a designated changing cubicle and parking space

    Short stays are welcome outside of the peak ski season, and throughout the summer for walking, mountain biking or just relaxing.

    Exterior
    Our apartment is situated in the village of Le Monetiers-le-Bains, the highest in the Serre Chevalier ski area (250kms of pistes). It is close to the slopes (about 150-200m) which are accessed via a footbridge across the Guisane River. There is ample skiing for all levels, and there are many off-piste routes to be explored. Beginners lifts are 200m from the door.

    Chamoissiere is just 12kms from the main town of Briancon, a Napoleonic walled town built by the famous military architect Vauban, and 20 minutes from the Italian border. In summer there are plenty of activities to enjoy including climbing, walking, via ferrata, rafting, kayaking, and mountain biking.

    The area is also famous for its close proximity to the major mountain stages of the Tour de France, the Col du Lauteret, Granon, Galibier and Izoard are all close by. Across the Col du Lauteret is the glacier of La Meije, and you can enjoy summer skiing at Deux Alpes.

    Out of season, it is a quiet, relaxed place to be. Why not relax on the terrace and just take in the beautiful views

    . Lift passes can be waiting in the apartment for you, or can be purchased online, please ask for details.

    Although there is ample car parking at the lifts, you probably wont need to use it, as it is just a short walk away, across a new footbridge.

    Ski school can be booked through New Generation Serre Chevalier, a British ski school based in the village. or locally through ESF or ESI.

    The ski area is one of the largest in France, and being in the Southern Alps, enjoys 300 days of sunshine each year.

    The buildings at the foot of the ski lifts have been renewed, several new chairlifts have improved the link to Monetier, and the Grands Bains Thermal Baths have been updated.

    Walking, hilking etc are all just outside the door, and the chairlift is open in July and August.

    Restaurants, foods & wine
    There are several restaurants in the village, nearly all of which serve traditional Alpine fondues and raclettes, but usually with additional specialities. Le Kawa is our favourite creperie, and is ideally situated just opposite the Alpen bar. If they are busy, you can wait in the Alpen bar, and they will come and get you when your table is ready .
    For pizza, there is La Brasera behind the church and Aquisana has an excellent value menu tentationwith fish, gravlax and gorgeous desserts and cheeses.
    The restaurant at the Hotel Allliey has a more gourmet feel, with a great wine list.

    Location description

    Close to the Vauban citadel of Briancon, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, and on the edge of the Parc Nationale des Ecrins with several long-distance footpaths crossing the area.
    The area is a regular feature of the Tour de France, and is a mecca for cyclists throughout the summer with the famous Cols of Galibier, Lauteret and Izoard within easy reach.
    The village of Le Monetier-les-Bains has been a spa village since Roman times and the Roman themed spa is just 200m away.
    Meanwhile, the ski area of Serre Chevalier is just outside your door in winter with 250km of pistes for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.
