Lovely sunny, modern apartment with private south facing garden and terrace, fully equipped, off road parking, near shops, restaurants, markets, artisan huts, beach, sea water swimming pool, swing parks, bike hire and cycle tracks. Sleeps 4-6.
The space
Tastefully decorated and well insulated with natural paints and hemp insulation. Friendly English and French speaking hosts. Close to plenty of amenities. Very kid friendly!

The apartment is located in the town of Le Château at the southern end of the island, just 5 mins by car from the bridge and ten/twenty mins walk to the local shops, supermarket, restaurants, market, port and beach.

is fully equipped to a high standard and bed linen and bath towels are available upon request for an additional fee (10 euros/ person for bath towels and 10 euros/person for bed linen). The apartment has TV and WIFI Internet access, BBQ, garden table, chairs for 6, 2 sunbeds.
Getting around
Best by bike or car. Buses run more frequently in high periods. Nearest train station is in Surgere or Rochefort.
Other things to note
There is a 300 euro security deposit to pay upon arrival. This is fully refundable at the end of your stay. If you require cleaning the cost is 65 euros.

Location description
The apartment is located in the town of Le Château at the southern end of the island, just 5 mins by car from the bridge and ten/twenty mins walk to the local shops, supermarket, restaurants, market, port and beach. MicroClimate and Oysters: A local micro climate ensures the region is the second sunniest in France. The beaches are beautiful and natural, protected by dunes backed by immense pine forests. This makes Oléron a lovely place to walk and enjoy nature, whether it be a mushroom picking jaunt in the autumn, or simply a summer stroll through the pine forests and along the beautiful beaches. Since oyster farming is traditionally the islands largest economy, there are various tourist attractions centred around this, like trips out on to the east coast marshes at low tide and, of course oyster detestation restaurants. The famous oyster marshes are recognisable throughout the island and are surrounded by colourful huts, working and artisan, which bring artists and seafood lovers from all over the place. Keeping in this style you will find that the whole island is full of amazing seafood restaurants and bars to help you while away the activities of your day. You can find all types of restaurant on the island.

You can find all types of restaurant on the island; from basic little oyster huts that serve the simplest, most delicious oysters you've ever tasted, fresh from the marshes, to Italian, Thai, organic vegetarian Indian to high class gastronomic French cuisine. Wherever you go you will usually find a good menu and plenty of fresh fish! There is a list of recommended local restaurants in the apartment.
Le Chateau - Things to do: There is a lovely planted mini golf course as well as public petang or ‘french boules' pitches in the town. Also on a Sunday morning in Le Chateau you will find all the delights of the biggest market on the island, bringing people from all the localities all year round. Le Chateau also boasts a lovely newly renovated port and marina, full of restaurants and artisans huts offering everything from langoustines, to hand made home furnishings and beautiful jewellery. Next to the port is the historic Citadel, an original Vauban fortress dating back to the 17th century, but now more commonly used to host jazz festivals, art exhibitions or fireworks displays. There is also a nice beach in the town with a sea water swimming pool during the summer to enable swimming at low tide and safe swimming for the little ones. Although the east coast beaches aren't quite as typically beautiful as the west coast ones, they are certainly quaint and the sea is always warmer here than the Atlantic coast.
Directions
Directions to 17 Rue de la Chasse, Le Chateau d’Oleron
When you arrive over the bridge, take the first right, sign-posted Le Chateau (D734).
Follow the road through some oyster marshes, past the new marina on your left and the port on your right. Continue past the colourful artisan huts up to ‘le Bon Coin’ (bar/restaurant in red).
You arrive at two mini roundabouts. Take the 2nd exit at the first and the 1st exit at the second sign posted ‘St Pierre, Dolus’ (Chemin de Ronde: takes you around the outside of the old walls). Follow the road all the way round to another mini roundabout.
Turn left at the mini roundabout (3rd exit) on to D734 again. Go past the Super U supermarket on your left and then the cemetery on your right.
Just after the cemetery you will see a small field on a corner plot on your left (pizza sign). Do not take that left, but the one immediately afterwards, sign posted Rue de la Chasse.
Follow the road to the end, bearing right at the bend and we are the last house on the left corner plot with brown fencing and a dark grey aluminium gate.
You can park inside the gate on the grass to the left. Your access to the apartment is through the wooden gate, next to the parking space on the back of the house with the sunny garden.

Deposit/Booking Notes
There is a 300 euro security deposit to pay upon arrival. This is fully refundable at the end of your stay. We can supply sheets and bath towels for 15 euros/ person, otherwise you're welcome to bring your own. We ask you to treat our apartment as you would your own home. Please leave it clean and tidy, as it was when you arrived. Otherwise you can opt to pay a cleaning fee of 65 euros (to be arranged on arrival). Discounts offered for long term lets.
