    Location description

    LATINA
Before the four "new cities" built in the province of Latina between 1932 and 1937, with the name of Littoria, the current city of Latina, it summarizes at least two aspects: that of the land "reconquered" with the reclamation of the Agro Pontino, and the other of the new city, symbol of the magnificent and progressive fate of the Regime. Designed and built by Oriolo Frezzotti, according to a rough, impressive and functional monumentality, Latina also emanates the suggestions of the cities of De Chirico and Sironi, although it has undergone not so happy interventions in the post-war period. The eastern part falls within the Circeo National Park, with the Fogliano Park and the homonymous coastal lake, the English villa, the botanical garden and the facilities for naturalistic animation and the study of the environment.
Among the noteworthy historical and archaeological sites, the archaeological area of Satricum and the home of the martyrdom of S. Maria Goretti
The Lido di Latina has been awarded the Blue Flag F.E.E.

    SABAUDIA
In a single glance, the relaxing waters of the lake, the dune cordon, kilometers of that beach, often solitary, along which Alberto Moravia used to walk, the sea, the green everywhere and the imposing bulk of the Promontory of the Circeo dominating from southeast Sabaudia is the headquarters of the Directorate of the Circeo National Park, with the Visitor Center, the Naturalistic Museum and the Documentation Center on School Education and the Health Work in the Pontine Marshes "Claudia Ortese".
Despite its young age, Sabaudia preserves important testimonies of presences that preceded its foundation for centuries: the thirteenth century Shrine of the Sorresca, the Palazzo di Domiziano (one of the most important archaeological complexes of the lower Lazio), the so-called Fonte di Lucullo, the F.Murena swimming pool (powered by the sea).

    SAN FELICE CIRCEO
Stage of the long human story that, passing beyond the limits of written history wraps itself in the myth of the adventure of Ulysses who landed here attracted by the Maga Circe, and long lived prey of the grass of love moly, this area was inhabited by very remote ages .
The numerous finds gathered in the Homo Sapiens et Habitat exhibit and, above all, the numerous sea caves in which the skull of a Neanderthal man was found, bones of animals, tools and tools, remains of prehistoric men (caves of the goats, Guŕttari, Fossellone and Breuil). and that accompany the summit of the mountain and the historical center.
The area is a splendid environmental synthesis in which the promontory stands out, the only height of the Pontine plain, from whose top there is a vast panorama that embraces the Agro Pontino, the mountains, the sea and the Pontine islands.

    TERRACINA
Two symbols of Terracina: the sea and the Temple of Jupiter Anxur, part of a monumental complex that constituted the acropolis, located on Mount S. Angelo, from which there is a breathtaking view that embraces the gulf and the Pontine islands, up to extend, in particularly serene days, to the pearls of Ischia and Capri. Here Terracina shows its appearance as a tourist town with its long beach of fine golden sand, ideally divided into the Riviera di Ponente and the Riviera di Levante, served by equipped facilities; the parks, the receptive structures, the colorful port-channel of the fishermen and the two docks for pleasure boats, up to the arm from which the connections with the islands of Ponza and Ventotene, the canal-ports and docks of Badino and Foce Sisto .
For those who like to alternate the sea with a relaxing and uncontaminated hill, for a few kilometers you can reach the Natural Monument of Campo Soriano, an area particularly interesting from a geological point of view, incorporated as the Natural Monument Monte S. Angelo-Tempio di Giove Anxur, in the Monti Ausoni and Lago di Fondi Regional Park.

    SPERLONGA
The town of Sperlonga, perched on the tongue of land of Monte S. Magno, along the S. S. Flacca, owes its name to the natural caves - the speluncae - that open along the coast. The village retains its original nucleus with a typically Mediterranean flavor, with white buildings, small arches escapes between the narrow alleys and occasionally a glimpse of sea and sky. From the small square of the village there are alleys and steps leading to the most pristine sea of Lazio, also awarded with the Blue Flag of the Fee, symbol of high quality of the water and services to tourists. The coastline is really enchanting, long golden sandy beaches frame a blue and crystalline sea. Do not miss the beautiful sandy beaches with singular names: Fontana, Canzatora, Salette e Bonifica.
Beyond the town lies the beach of Angolo, with the cave of Tiberio and, after the promontory of the Ciannito, which extends to the sea, the coast of Bazzano. The last beach is that of the Dolls, on which the homonymous cave opens.

Agostino, S.Vito, Arenata, Ariana, Quaranta Remi, Fontana and, now inserted in the urban fabric, Serapo) bounded by rocky spurs, on which stand the coastal towers, bays and enchanting coves. Numerous religious buildings of artistic and cultural value: the Cathedral of St. Erasmus, full of paintings and seventeenth-century works, and the Norman bell tower, the churches of the Holy Annunziata with the adjacent Grotta d'oro, of S. Giovanni a sea, of the Sorresca, of S.Francesco, of S.Domenico.

Gaeta is awarded the Blue Flag F.E.E.

    FORMIA
In the heart of the Gulf of Gaeta, where the influence of the cold winds is less strong and the mountains rise to protect the whole area, rises Formia, a seaside resort of ancient traditions, favorite place of the ancient Roman bourgeoisie that left you with remains of dozens of villas and even tombs, the most illustrious of which is the one attributed to Cicero, who was killed here and here also has his funeral monument.
The history of Formia (from the Greek "hormiai" or "landing") is one of the oldest of the cities of the south Pontine: according to legend, Ulysses landed there with his fleet, but he was the only one who managed to save his own ship due to the presence on the territory of ancient cannibal giants, the Lestrigoni. Formia presents a historical and natural heritage of great value, it is no coincidence that historical evidence shows that it has been inhabited since 500 BC by an ancient Italic people known as the Volsci.
Among the places of greatest interest we point out the Tower of Castellone, the Port of Caposele, Villa Rubino and the Forum of Nerva

    PONZA & VENTOTENE

Silverio with the homonymous beach; S.Stefano, just over a nautical mile from Ventotene with which it shares the recognition of the State Natural Reserve and the Marine Protected Islands of S. Stefano and Ventotene.
For those not lucky enough to own a boat, the main islands can be reached with annual and summer connections from Formia, Terracina and S.Felice Circeo (province of Latina), and Anzio (province of Rome).

    SCAURI & MINTURNO
The town has ancient origins, aurunche and Roman origins on a hill dominating the seaside villages of Scauri, the ancient Pyrae, and Marina di Minturno.
Its town extended to the edge of the Garigliano river, which marks the border between the Province of Latina and Lazio, with the Province of Caserta and Campania, crossed by the ancient chain bridge built by the Bourbons in 1828 and completely restored.
In this area stands one of the main archaeological complexes of Lazio: Minturnae, an area of great historical-monumental value, rich as it is of vestiges and works: the Theater, home to a rich calendar of summer performances and with a capacity of 2,500 places, temples, the republican forum, the imperial forum, the capitolium, the tabernae, the macellum and the antiquarium, the thermal plant.
