    Description

    The apartment has a separate laundry, hall, and is very spacious. Beyond the library is a large living room that leads directly onto the large terrace. It is magic to sit there in the evening, an oasis of tranquility above the streets. The terrace is behind the Theatre Jean Alary and private. It looks over the canal tile roof tops of the bastide and the spires of the Cathedral Saint-Michel.
    The apartment belongs to Sophie and James McDonald who are on hand to help and have been in the region for ten years and are available with practical advise.
    At the front East end of the apartment are the three bedrooms and the two bathrooms. There is a bath, a power shower and great wardrobe space. All the windows are double glazed. There is air conditioning and electrically controlled blinds and shutters. The light in the apartment is exceptional.
    The kitchen is spacious and very well equipped. It also looks onto the terrace.
    In the winter the people of Carcassonne regularly take to the nearby ski slopes. The apartment has space to store skis. Historical, archaeological and wine destinations are within easy reach. Toulouse and Barcelona, Nime and the Mediterranean coast are also popular destinations.
    The apartment is less than 10 minutes work from the SNCF train station. Two minutes from the apartment is the bus stop for the Carcassonne airport shuttle. From here are regular departures to Irish cities of Dublin, Shannon, Cork Brussels in Belgium and , Liverpool, East Midlands, London in the UK.
    Water sports, hiking, tennis courts, the Canal du Midi are all nearby. The region is known in France for its unspoilt and diverse beauty.

    The apartment is located in the heart of Carcassonne midway between the medieval walled Cité and the Bastide St. Louis, Carcassonne's commercial center., a southern French city of exceptional character and beauty. All of the attractions of the city lie within easy walking distance. On the doorstep are cafés and brasseries. Bakeries, post office, Tourist information, several ATMs .typical Southern French shops, a weekly market, a theatre, a cathedral and numerous buildings of hstorical interest are within a 500m walk.

    No car is required but parking is easily available. The riverbank with its views of the Cité is midway on the walk to the city. The train station is 700m away. If you arrive by train with only a small rolling bag, you can easily walk to the house, or catch one of the taxis that line the street in front of the train station. The Canal du Midi, which runs from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, is also just 500m from Maison Juliette. Carcassonne has numerous trains to & from Toulouse, Perpignan, Narbonne, Montpellier and Adge. RyanAir offers flights directly to Carcassonne from London & other UK cities.

    The modern city is built around two medieval cities, the original hilltop Cité on one side of the river Aude, and the thirteenth century Bastide on the other side of the river. Carcassonne is within easy reach of the Mediterrannean Sea with its famous beaches, and of the Pyrenees mountains and their winter ski resorts.

    The flat lies within the ancient bastide of Carcassonne, founded by and named after Saint Louis, a thirteenth century king of France. the Musee des Beaux Artes, the Cathedral of Saint Michel, Place Carnot (the central square), public gardens, and a number of spectacular Renaissance town houses (known in French as hôtels particuliers).

    Just over the River Aude you will find the medieval cité, the largest medieval European city with its city walls still intact, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in France.

    For well over two thousand years Carcassonne has been a cross-roads on routes linking Spain to Italy, and the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean

    Sea. It is ideally located for visiting vineyards, markets, picturesque hilltop villages, Mediterranean ports, Cathar Castles, historic churches and abbeys, and the Pyrenees mountains. The Canal du Midi, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, passes within walking distance of the apartment. Carcassonne is the capital of the Aude departement "Le Pays Cathare" - Cathar Country.

    The penthouse is also walking distance, or two minutes' taxi drive, from the central railway station and the shuttle bus to Carcassonne airport..

    Directions

    Carcassonne. Espéraza is 50 kilometers south of the medieval walled city of Carcassonne. Ryanair flies daily from Stansted (Near London in the UK) to Carcassonne, and regularly each week from Sheffield (UK), Liverpool (UK) East Midlands (UK) Dublin (Ireland), Shannon (Ireland), offering cheap flights mid week during the low season. Cars can be hired at the airport. By Road from Carcassonne, head due south down the Aude valley on the N118, through Limoux and Couiza. Turn off right to Espéraza. There is also a rail link and a coach service to Espéraza from the airport.

    Perpignan. Espéraza is 70 kilometres North West of Perpignan, on the coast near the Spanish border. Ryanair flies daily from Stansted (Near London in the UK) to Perpignan, offering cheap flights mid week during the low season. Cars can be hired at the airport. By Road from Perpignan, take the D117 west to Quillan, then take the D118 northwards and turn left to Espéraza. There is also a coach service from Perpignan.

    Toulouse. Espéraza is about an hour and a half's drive from Toulouse, which has an international airport served by British Airways from London Heathrow, Air France from London Gatwick, and Buzz (cheap mid-week flights) from London Stansted and Bristol. From Toulouse head towards Carcassonne (by car, rail or coach) and then continue as above.
