Race The Train, Tywyn, Wales
18th August
Can you beat the train? Each year Tywyn hosts the great "Race the Train" - where participants race against the Talyllyn Railway.
Runners start on the bridge next to the railway in Tywyn, running the first mile through town and then across country and farm tracks to Abergynolwyn, finishing in the Town school yard.
Runners of all ages and abilities compete against the old steam locomotives of the beautiful Dysynni Valley, with many returning year after year to try and better their previous performance, or just 'Beat the train'. The race has also been televised on a number of occasions.
A unique event, and at 14k it's a challenge - there are also 10k races and a toddlers trot. More info and thanks to George Watson, via this article at the BBC
