Description of holiday villa near Uzumlu, Turquoise Coast

Self-Catering Holiday Villa Latona is surrounded by pine forests and has beautiful views over a plateau and the nearby mountains and is 600m above sea level. The Lycian Coast offers everything that any holidaymaker could want with lovely beaches, all types of water-sports, many good restaurants, historical sites and a range of shopping experiences. An ideal holiday venue for extended families with children and for larger groups of friends.

The detached holiday villa can sleep up to 13 people in 5/6 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms and 3 living rooms. The villa is fully equipped and furnished to a high standard and has a delightful private pool and is surrounded by large gardens. We have put particular emphasis on children’s needs with many games including a PlayStation 2 and table football; many pool accessories and an activity centre. There is a cot, bedrails, baby alarm, a food blender and a microwave steriliser and the large gardens contain a Turkish Kösk and a basketball hoop.

The self-catering holiday villa is 45 minutes from Dalaman Airport, 20 minutes from Calis Beach and 30 minutes from Olu Deniz and Fethiye Town. The villa is close to Uzumlu village with shops, restaurants, wine bars and a thriving Friday market. Above the villa is the ancient Roman/Lycian city of Cadianda which can be reached in 15 minutes and is well worth a visit to see the amazing archaeology.

Location description

Getting About the Lycian Coast
Travelling from the villas to the many attractions around the area is easy and fairly relaxing. Hiring a car or minibus is recommended and is fairly cheap and allows you complete freedom. Contrary to the perceived views of driving in Turkey it is pretty safe, traffic density is low and driving attitudes are peaceful and fairly predictable, albeit that there is frequent use of the horn. Alternatively there is a very efficient Dolmus minibus service which covers all the local area at low prices. Above the Dolmus level are inter-city bus services which use modern air-conditioned coaches, again at low prices. Also if you book local boat tours or visits to out of town attractions, many of the tour operators will pick you up and return you to the villa. An easy and pleasant way to reach Fethiye from the villa is to drive to Calis and then use the water taxis (5TL and every ½ hour) for a relaxing 30 minute trip with great views of Fethiye harbour.

Recommended Areas to Visit
The Fethiye area for boat trips around the bay, either during the day or to see the sunset, which are good value at around £10 including a meal. Alternatively you can rent a boat exclusively for your party at the Calis water taxi depot. Do visit the renowned Tuesday Market and also the Turkish Baths in Fethiye Old Town to pamper yourself with a bath at 20TL and a massage at 15TL. While near Calis the kids will enjoy a visit to Sultan’s Aquapark and to Ege Karting and you also have a 5km beach and many restaurants. Check the Map of Fethiye.

Go to the Olu Deniz area for the beaches at the Blue Lagoon and for the many restaurants - maybe try paragliding off nearby Babadag mountain. Regular boats run from Olu Deniz beach to Butterfly Valley which is filled with butterflies in mid-summer. Nearby Kaya Koy is a deserted village preserved after the population exchanges – just drive through Hisaronu and follow the signs.

Visit the Patara area and pass the Roman/Lycian ruins to reach a stunning 20km sandy beach. Later continue to Kalkan which is a picturesque town with many excellent restaurants. Nearby Saklikent Gorge has fabulous views, water rafting, mud baths and a good restaurant. Tlos Yakapark has a trout farm with an interesting restaurant and is close to the historical sites of Tlos and Xanthos.

Gocek is a 40 minute drive from the villas towards Dalaman Airport and is a beautiful town with a popular upmarket marina. On the way stop at secluded Katranci Beach for beautiful views with a walkway joining two inlets and the basic facilities include a water slide.

For longer trips visit Rhodes on a day return ferry from Fethiye harbour for around £60. Also well worth seeing is Ephesus and Pamukkale on a 2 day bus tour for around £65 or just visit Pamukkale on a day trip for around £35. For mud baths and to watch Caretta Turtles take a day trip to Dalyan and also see the Lycian tombs at Kaunos and Iztuzu Beach, all for around £20.

Directions

Dalaman Airport to Villa Latona
Leave Dalaman Airport, drive down a dual carriageway past Dalaman town to reach the D400, then turn right and head to Antalya and Fethiye on the D400 for about 35 minutes (after 15 minutes you go through a toll tunnel costing 3TL). When approaching Fethiye, after a Toyota Garage on your left, signs point right to Fethiye - ignore these and carry on along the D400 towards Antalya where the road becomes a dual carriageway. After about 3km you see signs for Denizli and Üzumlu and Historic Cadianda pointing to the left. Turn left at this traffic light controlled roundabout and follow the road that climbs steeply through a forest for about 10km. The road levels out and becomes a dual carriageway and then 1.5km further on there is a right turn at a roundabout signed to Üzumlu village and Cadianda.
Now turn right towards Üzumlu village and after 500m turn left at the Mosque and follow this road through the village, the road tiling ends outside the village and then you pass a cemetery on your left and a large fenced house on your right. You then pass a few bungalows on your left and next you see a new estate of villas (TUFAN) being built up the mountainside to your left, pass the entrance to these and then within 100m turn right onto a dirt road over a culvert (watch for the blue Villa Latona sign). Follow the dirt road for 200m, then turn left off this road onto another cement road; you then pass four villas on your left to reach Villa Latona which is painted yellow-ochre. The distance from the Mosque in Üzumlu to the villa is about 2km.

Turkey Holiday Villa Latona to Fethiye
Go back down the dual carriageway and the main steep road until you reach the roundabout junction with the D400, at these traffic lights cross over the D400 and follow this road for about 1.5km to traffic lights at a T-junction. Turn left and follow this straight road for about 5km (after 3km you will have passed the KIPA -Tesco supermarket on your left) to a traffic light controlled roundabout with a Shell garage, Carrefour supermarket and the Otogar (bus station) in front of you. Turn right and follow this road to the centre of Fethiye, if you keep to the right where the road divides near the harbour you will find a pay (3-5 TL) Otopark on your right opposite the Garanti Bank. This is convenient for the shopping centre, old town, market area and the harbour front. To return, exit left from the car park and then follow the one way system for 400m until it divides, keep to the right side of the divide and then go straight through a few traffic lights. At the Shell garage (Otogar) lights and roundabout turn left and after 5km you reach a Gempa supermarket on your right, just after a school and POLIS station, turn right at these traffic lights and follow this road back up to the D400 and across for the Üzumlu road.

Turkey Holiday Villa to Ovacik, Hisaronu, Olu Deniz
Follow the previous instructions for Fethiye to the roundabout and traffic lights at the Shell garage, Carrefour supermarket and the Otogar. Cross over this roundabout and after 1km turn left at a light controlled T junction and again after 2km turn right at a light controlled T junction. Carry on this road, up a steep winding hill, for about 2.5km and at the top of the hill you will see a Petrol Station on your left and this is the beginning of Ovacik. Continue for 2km to a roundabout, straight on is Hisaronu and left leads to Olu Deniz. If you wish to wander through the shops in Hisaronu there is a car park to the right of this roundabout. If you turn left towards Olu Deniz the road goes steeply downhill until you reach the town. Parking is limited but turn left at the 1st or 2nd road after the road has levelled out and you can normally find somewhere.

Turkey Vacation Villa to Çalis Beach
Go down the main road from the Villa to the traffic lights on the D400, then cross straight over the D400 and carry on down this road and after about 1.5km you come to a T junction with a major road. Turn right and after about 500m turn left at a traffic light controlled roundabout and then follow this road to Çalis Beach. Çalis consists of beach-front bars and restaurants behind the 5km shingle beachfront. Water taxis go regularly to Fethiye harbour, taking about 25 minutes and costing 8-10TL per person and nearby is a good water park called Sultan’s Aquapark.

Turkey Vacation Villa to Letoon Hospital
Follow the previous directions towards Fethiye and when you reach the traffic lights and roundabout at the Shell garage and Otogar turn left. Follow the road for about 2km and then you will see a sign to the Letoon Hospital on your right and the hospital has a dedicated English speaking section.
