Description of holiday villa in Tavira, Algarve

The detached villa sits on one of the several small hills in Tavira Town and enjoys views along the river, over the Roman Bridge and the town centre, and out to sea. With ~250 sqm, 4 bedrooms (2 x double, 2 x twin), 3 bathrooms, Lounge, Dining, Kitchen, Utility Room (Washer, Drier, etc), part aircon, pool 11m x 5m (36ft x 16ft), etc, the villa is amply equipped to accommodate up to 8 guests. Two travel cots suitable for toddlers up to approx 2 years are available on request. Bedlinen is changed, and the villa cleaned, each 6 to 8 days, towels are changed each 3 to 4 days (but bring your own beach towels). There are TV's in the lounge, in the dining room and in the master bedroom, each with independent satellite connection and DVD player. The Sky channels include BBC, ITV, CNN, etc, while EuroSport, EuroNews, 4 Movie channels, etc are available on the cable TV. WiFi internet is provided and the telephone can be connected on request.
The lounge is almost 50sqm (500sqft) and all of the bedrooms are good sized with no shortage of wardrobe space. Each of the bathrooms has full bath with shower, bidet, mirrors, hair-dryer, etc. The entire floor area is tiled and all windows have shutters against the summer sun. The villa is surrounded by a marble-tiled terrace with a marble-topped balustrade. There are two furnished patio areas on the terrace, one shaded. At the garden level, a large patio area is separated from the pool area by a child-security fence. Dining facilities for eight people are provided in the shelter of a pergola beside the pool. A gas-fired barbecue is provided.
A large roof terrace at the first floor level provides panoramic views over the old town and out to sea, also to the Algarvean Hills.
At the rear of the villa, a footpath leads down to the river, close to the Roman Bridge. Using this footpath you arrive at the Roman Bridge in 6 to 8 minutes (depends on age and agility!).
Free on-street parking is available and the area can be regarded as relatively safe; however, private parking for up two cars is available.
The villa is managed by an English couple who live locally and are on hand should any domestic emergencies arise.

Location description

Inhabited since well before the birth of Christ, Tavira boasts Roman, Moorish, Crusader remains. An active fishing port, it has a wonderful variety of restaurants. The local town council arranges fairs, exhibitions, street theatre, folk music and dancing, a film festival, etc throughout the summer. Tavira Island has 8 miles of some of the best and least crowded beaches of the Algarve (and even a remote nudist beach). The surrounding Ria Formosa Nature Park is rich in flora, fauna, lepidoptera; you can just wander there or rnet bicycles, horses, etc. The nearby Guadiana Valley, the border with Spain, has several old walled towns reflecting the long rivalry between these two neighbours. You can tour by car or take a boat cruise up the Guadiana River to see these towns (with a leisurely lunch en route). The old city of Seville, a wonderful shopping and equestrian centre (we won't mention the bull fights) is 90 mins drive or express buses connect Tavira with Seville. A local train service (once an hour) connects Tavira with all of the towns of the Algarve coast (and connects also with the high speed train from Faro to Lisbon). Train, bus and taxi fares in the Algarve are a fraction of typical UK costs.

Other activities

Golf, Sailing, Surfing, Fishing, Horse-riding, Cycling, Kayaking, etc are all catered for in Tavira.

Directions

Take N370 in Taviira exit from A22 motorway. After 4km reach roundabout on N125. Turn left (east) toward Spain. After 800m take first turn on right toward Tavira. After 60m right again into Urbanizacao Colina da Asseca; this is a one way system. After 200m the road turns right, another 200m you come to a T-junction.
