Location description
Rhodes
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands. Based just 18km from Turkey it also has the best sunshine record of all the mediterranean islands. Sun worshippers will find they are in heaven! If the scorchng temperatures of summer time in Rhodes are too much for you the island is a great place to visit in the quieter months when the weather is still balmy but a little less intense.
If you are a history buff Rhodes will offer you endless opportunities to explore the ancient architecture that is present on every corner of the Island. The Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage Site and it is definitely a 'must see.' It is not just the architecture in Rhodes that makes the island so stunning. The scenery is also breathtaking; turqouise waters, mountains covered in lemon, orange and olive groves, white sandy beaches and stunning sunsets will make your stay in Rhodes unforgettable.
If you're looking for a more active holiday there is no end end of things to do on Rhodes. Watersports, golf, fishing and walking are all popular activities. In the evenings you will find wonderful tavernas run by friendly locals serving delicious Greek cuisine, lively bars where you can take in the view while enjoying a cold drink, and numerous shops for you to browse in. For those of you wanting to stay up until the early hours you can head to the clubs in Faliraki, Lindos or Rhodes Town.
Lindos
Lindos is locacted on the South East of Rhodes and is often thought of as one of the most beautiful and exclusive resorts on the island. It is most famous for its stunning medieval and Byzantine architecture, particularly its majestic Acropolis that sits at the summit of the village. The views from the Acropolis are stunning and a trip up there (on foot or by donkey) is highly recommended.
Although Lindos is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Rhodes, because of a preservation order restricting development in the village it has remained relatively untouched. There are no vehicles allowed in the village so the only traffic you need to watch out for are those donkeys!
There are numerous gift shops, bars and restaurants tucked away in the narrow alley ways. Many of the restaurants have rooftop terraces so you can sit out and enjoys the views aross the medieval village and St Pauls Bay. There are great beaches in Lindos too, Pallas beach is a quieter alternative to the main beach, so if you've done enough exploring you can go and chill out on the soft sands.
Although Lindos doesn't have the crazy nightlife of Faliraki, there is still plenty to do when the sun goes down. There are a handful of trendy bars and clubs cleverly hidden behind the ancient doorways which stay open into the early hours.
Pefkos
Pefkos is just 3km away from Lindos and is really like a smaller, quieter version of its neighbour. Life in Pefkos is centered around its beautiful sandy beach. The pace of life here is slower and this is a great destination for families due to the calm, shallow waters and the relaxed atmosphere.
Although Pefkos is more laid back than Lindos there is still plenty to keep you occupied. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants to choose from and the nightlife is still bustling in the peak season.
Lardos
Lardos is worth a mention as it is a great example of a typical Greek village. It is centered around its village square where you will often see traditional Greek dancing being perfomed. Lardos has all the amenities that you would expect of a modern village but it has retained its charm. There are numerous tavernas to try delicious Greek cuisine in and international options if you fancy Italian or Chinese for a change. Lardos also has a lovely beach that is higly recommended.
