Description of holiday villa near Beziers, Languedoc-Roussillon

Villa Bressoniere is a traditional old Languedoc Villa and has a private garden and large swimming pool with sun loungers, as well as views and is close to the Mediterranean beaches, golf course as well as convenient for airport and rail (TGV) links. There is wifi internet connection as well as Satellite TV with UK terrestial channels and regional programmes on the BBC and International channels. There is a summer kitchen with barbecue for outside dining, outside shower and WC facilities. The villa is a short walk into the centre of the village with all commerce and a few minutes drive from Beziers town centre with its festivals, particularly the August feria and Occitan festivals.

Sharing the drive with a 'petit chateau', the garden, swimming pool and terraces are completely private and enhanced by a summer kitchen with barbecue area. Traditional and antique materials have been used throughout the house dating from when the villa was built and before and many original features including terracota tiles, antique oak doors, tapestry painting, stone 'ex-chateau' fireplace and wood shutters. Yet all modern conveniences are available including wifi, dvd player and three en suite bathrooms. The fourth bedroom has a bed settee and will made up for guests on arrival if requested. The master bedroom has an old marbled en suite bathroom, and access direct to the main rear terrace via French doors, the upstairs double bedroom is accessed via a spiral staircase from the hall, has an en suite shower room and a door to a private roof terrace.

Location description

Sharing a private driveway with the Petit Chateau next door, through electric gates, the villa is located within the village of Boujan, a short walk from the shops and restaurants in the village. There are also lots of facilities including large shopping areas in Beziers town which is a few minutes drive. Beziers has a history dating back to the Greeks and Romans when they occupied the fortified hilltop position, dominated these days by the Cathar cathedral. Home to the ancient Occitan culture, and the ex capital of the Languedoc region offers lots of fascinating history as well as year round festivals and events. The long sandy Mediterranean beaches with their superb morning views of the Pyrennees enhance the beauty of the region. As do the undulating hills inland, offering perched villages, river gorges, vineyards abound as well as many activities.

Other activities

There are markets situated in most local towns most days of the week. Canoeing is available on the river Orb and there are excellent antique shops to visit in historic Pezenas, just a 15 minute drive.

Local events

The main event is the feria, a 5 day street party based on Spanish and Occitan culture in Mid August always starting the 11th. Most events are free. Be warned they are very very popular! Beziers also has a number of other festivals including Medieval and Occitan pageants as well as a flower market every Friday morning in the main Allees Paul Riquet in the town centre.

Tourist attractions

Historic Beziers with its Cathar history, the walled city of Carcassone is an hours drive, the Cathar castles of the Roussillon similar timescale away. The Pont du Gard, the roman aqueduct in the opposite direction. As well as knights templar villages such as St Guilhelm le Desert.

Directions
