Description of holiday house in Saleres, Andalucia
Nestling into a fold in the mountains on the western edge of the beautiful Lecrin valley lies the tiny, sleepy village of Saleres. Here there is no motorized traffic as the ancient streets are wide enough only for the occasional passing mule cart.
In this tranquil setting lies Casa Magdalena - a beautiful, comfortable and surprisingly spacious village house, which has been skillfully converted from three traditional cottages to form a most attractive holiday home with a year-round, solar heated pool and a lovely roof terrace with unspoiled countryside views. The property is unusually accessible as it is situated just off the main square at the entrance to the village. It is possible to park right outside - no uphill hikes through tricky cobbled lanes!
There are two reception rooms - an airy, top-floor one with lovely, far reaching views for the summer months, and a cosy sitting room with an open fire for the winter months. The house has three large double bedrooms, three bathrooms (two en-suite), plus a separate WC and shower for the pool area. Both the Master bedroom suite and the second suite have their own balcony/terraces overlooking the pool. The family-sized kitchen/dining room is very well equipped (including dishwasher) with French doors which open out onto the courtyard. There is also a spacious covered area for al fresco summer dining, with a large, circular, Moroccan table.
The lovely courtyard garden and suntrap pool area are completely private.
Saleres itself is as traditional a hamlet as you will find anywhere in Andalucia. The church is highlighted in guide books as worthy of a visit and there are lovely walks down to the river and up onto the hillsides above the village.
The Lecrin Valley is also a wonderful place for horse-riding and and it is possible to arrange to ride the amazingly sure-footed Andalusian horses which are stabled in the next-door village of Albuñuelas. These rides may take you through the scented, orange-clad foothills, through clouds of pink almond blossom in spring, and high up into the mountains where you will enjoy breathtaking scenery from places which are virtually inaccessible on foot. It is possible to arrange rides of just a few hours, or full day treks. The owner of Casa Magdalena keeps a selection of riding boots and hats in the house for the use of visitors.
Casa Magdalena is also 30 mins from the beaches, restaurants and water sports of the Costa Tropical, 25 mins from historic Granada and the Alhambra Palace and 50 mins from the Sierra Nevada winter ski resort.

About the Lecrin Valley:
Just south of Granada, beyond the "Sigh of the Moor" pass (so called because here the last Moorish king paused on his journey into exile, and sighed for the beautiful city he had lost) lies a valley so beautiful that it was named by the Moors 'the Valley of Joy' - El Valle de Lecrin.
Other activities
Sun, Sea and Ski
The coast can be reached in 35 minutes and the ski resort in the Sierra Nevada mountains in about 45 minutes. Lanjaron - gateway to the Alpujarras (the highest villages in Spain, made famous by Chris Stewart's book 'Driving Over Lemons') lies just at the other end of the Valley - 20 mins away. The warm waters of Lake Bermjales and the hot water springs of Alhama de Granada can be reached in about 45 minutes by a beautiful drive over the Sierra de Albuñuelas. Or, for a quick dip closer at hand, there is a choice of local bars and restaurants with summer pools for the use of customers.
